If Trello activity is not appearing in Discord, troubleshoot the delivery chain in order: confirm that the activity should generate a Trello notification, verify that Trello generated it, restore browser and Power-Up access, then check the Discord webhook, board subscription and event filters. A Discord alert cannot exist when Trello never generated an eligible notification.
How a Trello alert reaches Discord
There are several separate handoffs between a card change and a Discord message. The action must first qualify for a Trello notification. Trello must then create the notification, the connector or Power-Up must be authorized and subscribed to the right board, and Discord must accept the resulting webhook message in the intended channel. A failure at any earlier handoff makes later checks look broken.

- Eligibility: the activity occurs on a card you are assigned to or watching, or matches another notification trigger such as a mention or being added to a card or board.
- Trello notification: the event appears in Trello’s notification drawer.
- Client access: browser, operating-system and network permissions allow Trello and the connector to load.
- Connector authorization: the Power-Up or integration can still access the board and has not lost its personal settings.
- Discord delivery: the webhook still exists, targets the intended channel, and can post the message type the connector sends.
Work through the checks below in that order. It prevents you from rebuilding a Discord webhook when the original Trello event was never eligible.

1. Prove that the Trello event is eligible
Trello’s documented rule is that it notifies you about actions on cards you are assigned to or watching. Your own actions are not notification triggers for you. This is the most common reason a test appears to fail: the person making the change is also the person waiting for the alert.

Run a controlled test
- Choose a test card on the board connected to Discord.
- Confirm that the intended recipient is assigned to the card or is watching the card, list or board.
- Ask a different member to make a harmless change, such as adding a short comment or moving the card within the board.
- Have the recipient check Trello’s notification drawer before checking Discord.
If the other member’s change produces a Trello notification, the event is eligible and you can continue downstream. If it does not, correct assignment or watching first. A test performed only by the recipient is inconclusive because Trello does not notify users about their own actions.
Check the activity type
Mentions, being added to a card or board, and other activity covered by watching settings can generate notifications. A card can be visible to someone without that person watching it, so visibility alone is not proof of eligibility. For a due-date test, the card needs a due-date reminder and the recipient must be a card member or watcher. Without both conditions, a due-date change may not create the expected notification.
2. Check Trello’s notification drawer separately
Open Trello and inspect the notification drawer immediately after the controlled test. This separates an upstream Trello problem from a Discord delivery problem.
- No Trello notification: stop troubleshooting Discord and return to assignment, watching, trigger type and due-date-reminder conditions.
- Trello notification present but no Discord message: the event passed Trello’s eligibility layer; investigate the connector, authorization, subscription, filters and Discord webhook.
- Some Trello events appear but one type does not: the connector may filter that action, or the event may not satisfy Trello’s watching rules.
Do not use a browser pop-up as the only test. The notification drawer is the useful checkpoint for the integration path; desktop pop-ups have additional browser and operating-system requirements.

3. Restore browser and operating-system notification access
Trello desktop notifications are a separate client layer. In Trello account settings, allow desktop notifications. Then open the browser’s site permissions for trello.com and allow notifications there as well. Finally, verify that the operating system allows notifications from that browser.
Use the correct order
- In Trello account settings, turn on desktop notifications.
- In the browser permission panel, locate trello.com and change notifications to Allow.
- In the operating system’s notification settings, enable alerts for the browser and check that Focus, Do Not Disturb or a similar mode is not suppressing them.
- Keep Trello open in a browser tab while testing.
Atlassian states that Trello must be open in a browser tab to receive desktop notifications. This requirement explains why a user may see activity in Trello later but receive no desktop indication at the time. It does not, by itself, prove that a Discord connector is working; use the Trello drawer and connector checks as separate checkpoints.
4. Refresh the board, Power-Up and network session
Power-Ups can fail before they send anything when the board page or connector session is stale. Refresh the Trello board, then reopen the connector or Power-Up and repeat the controlled test.
Rule out a blocked or slow connection
- Reload the board in the current browser.
- Open the board’s Power-Up or integration panel again instead of relying on an already-open panel.
- Try the same operation in another supported browser.
- If possible, test from a different network to distinguish a local connection or filtering problem.
- If the panel times out or fails to load, inspect the browser console for blocked requests and record the error text before changing settings.
Atlassian identifies slow connections and network blocking as common causes of Power-Up loading failures. A connector that cannot load reliably cannot refresh its subscriptions or complete an authorization flow. Resolve the loading problem before judging the Discord channel.

5. Reauthorize the Trello connector
An integration can stop delivering after an expired, revoked or otherwise stale authorization even though cards and Trello’s own notifications continue to work. Reauthorization is the appropriate next step after the event is proven in Trello and the Power-Up loads normally.
Reauthorization sequence
- Open the board in another browser and authorize the Power-Up or connector there. This helps distinguish a browser-session problem from an account or integration problem.
- If the connector still fails, open the board’s Power-Ups settings.
- Remove the connector’s personal settings.
- Disable the Power-Up.
- Enable it again and complete the authorization flow from the beginning.
- Return to the board subscription and run the controlled test with another member.
Removing personal settings can clear a stale account association, but it may also remove connector-specific choices such as selected boards or filters. Record those choices first so you can recreate them accurately. If authorization succeeds but no message arrives, proceed to Discord delivery checks rather than repeating authorization indefinitely.
6. Inspect Discord delivery settings
Once Trello is generating the expected notification and the connector is authorized, inspect the destination channel. The connector’s webhook should still exist, point to the intended channel and have permission to post the kind of content it sends, including embeds or ordinary messages where applicable.

Verify the destination
- Open the target Discord channel’s integration or webhook settings and confirm that the connector’s webhook is present.
- Check that the webhook points to the channel where you are looking for alerts, not an archived or similarly named channel.
- Confirm that channel permissions allow the webhook or integration to post messages and embeds when the connector uses them.
- Check whether a moderator deleted and recreated the webhook; a recreated webhook may have a different destination or authorization state.
Verify the source and filters
- Confirm that the connector is subscribed to the current Trello board, not a copied, archived or similarly named board.
- Review event filters and temporarily broaden them for the controlled test.
- Test an action that the connector is documented to forward, then restore the intended narrow filter set.
These controls vary by connector, so use that connector’s own documentation for its exact labels. The important sequence is fixed: prove the Trello event, confirm the board subscription, then test with filters removed or widened. If the webhook exists and permissions are correct but only certain actions disappear, an event filter is more likely than a Discord outage.

7. Match the symptom to the likely break point

8. Choose the least disruptive fix
Use the existing connector when it is already configured and its settings can be repaired. Choose a maintained Discord app when you want a ready-made bot and accept third-party permissions. Build a custom relay when you need precise control over events, formatting and delivery.

When a Discord app is appropriate
Discord’s App Directory lists Taco as an app that can send live Trello board updates to a channel, filter actions sent to webhooks and manage Trello cards from Discord. Treat the listing as a capability description, not a guarantee for every workspace. Before installation, verify its current permissions, availability and privacy terms, then test it in a non-critical channel.
9. Build a custom Trello webhook relay
For a developer-controlled solution, Trello’s API webhooks provide the documented fallback. A webhook sends an action and the updated model to a callback URL when a watched model changes. Your service can receive that payload, decide which actions to keep, format a message and send it to a Discord webhook.

- Create a callback service that can receive HTTPS POST requests from Trello.
- Create a Trello webhook watching the board or other model whose changes matter.
- Use an access token that can read the watched model. Without that access, the webhook cannot provide the model data your relay needs.
- Have the callback service identify the action, apply your event rules and construct a concise Discord message.
- Send the formatted message to the destination Discord webhook.
- Trigger a controlled card change made by another member and inspect both the callback log and Discord channel.
This route moves filtering and formatting into code, so it is useful when a connector cannot express the team’s rules. It also creates ongoing engineering work: the callback service, token handling, error logging and Discord destination must remain available and maintained.
10. Avoid obsolete Butler Bot instructions
Older setup guides may tell you to use Butler Bot for notification delivery. Atlassian states that Butler Bot is no longer officially supported. Do not treat an old Butler Bot recipe as evidence that your current Trello-to-Discord path is configured correctly. Use a maintained connector, a currently listed Discord app or the Trello API webhook route instead.
Recovery playbooks for common cases
“Trello works, but Discord is silent”
First confirm that the exact test appears in Trello’s notification drawer. If it does, skip browser pop-up troubleshooting and inspect the connector’s authorization, board subscription, event filters and Discord webhook. This pattern usually indicates a downstream handoff rather than Trello’s eligibility rules.
“It stopped after working for months”
Check whether the webhook still exists and whether the channel or board was renamed, archived or replaced. Reauthorize the connector, remove its personal settings if necessary, and recreate its subscription. A deleted webhook or stale authorization can interrupt an otherwise unchanged workflow.

“Only my own changes are missing”
This is expected under Trello’s notification rule. Test with another member and make sure the recipient is assigned to or watching the card. Do not use your own edit as the sole proof that the integration is broken.
“Due-date alerts never arrive”
Confirm that a due-date reminder is configured and that the recipient is a card member or watcher. Then verify that the connector forwards due-date events and that its filters include them.
“The Power-Up times out”
Refresh the board, try another browser and network, and inspect console errors for blocked requests. Restore reliable loading before attempting authorization again.
