For a one-time transfer, export your Microsoft Edge favorites to an HTML file on the old computer, move the file, and import it on the new one. If you want favorites to keep updating across both computers, sign in to Edge with the same Microsoft account and turn on Favorites sync.
Sync shares future changes; an HTML file is a portable snapshot. Exporting does not delete favorites from the old computer, and the file does not transfer passwords, history, extensions, settings, or open tabs.

Which transfer method should you use?
| Situation | Recommended method | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Same Microsoft account and ongoing sync wanted | Edge Sync | Favorites and later changes can sync across devices. |
| Different accounts or profiles, offline transfer, or backup | Export and import an HTML file | Creates a snapshot; it does not link the computers. |
| Old computer is unavailable and sync was not enabled | Profile-file recovery as a last resort | Advanced and not guaranteed; the profile name and location can vary. |
Option 1: Use Edge Sync
Use this when both computers can access the internet and you want the same favorites to remain available on each. Sync is tied to the Microsoft account and Edge profile, and later changes can propagate between devices. Export a backup first if the collection is important.

- Open Edge and sign in to the same Microsoft account.

Signing in alone does not guarantee Favorites is enabled. A work or school administrator may also restrict sync.

Option 2: Export Favorites to an HTML file
Choose this for a one-time transfer, a different Microsoft account or Edge profile, an offline transfer, or a backup. Importing can add favorites to the destination collection rather than replace it, so export the destination favorites first if you need to preserve them.
Export from Edge on the old computer
- Open Edge and enter edge://favorites/ in the address bar.
- Select the … menu in the Favorites manager and choose Export favorites.
- Save the resulting HTML file somewhere easy to find. Exporting makes a copy and does not remove the original favorites.
Move the file
Copy the HTML file to the new computer using a USB drive, external drive, network share, or trusted cloud storage. The file contains favorites and their organization; it is not a complete Edge profile or a password export.

Import on the new computer
- Open Edge and select Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Select Profiles → Import browser data.
- Under Other import locations, select Import beside Import browser data now.
- In the Import from menu, select Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
- Select Choose file, choose the HTML file, and select Open.
- When the import finishes, select Done.
Imported favorites may appear in a folder named Imported on the Favorites bar. Check the full Favorites manager, including Other favorites and nested folders, for the items. If you do not see the Favorites bar, the favorites may still have imported; check Edge’s appearance settings to show the bar.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsOption 3: Recover Favorites from a local profile
Use local profile recovery only if the old computer is unavailable and there is no usable synced copy or HTML export. It is an advanced, Windows-specific fallback, not a guaranteed migration method. A commonly used profile location is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default, and the favorites data file is commonly named Bookmarks. Your profile may instead be named Profile 1, Profile 2, or something else.

- If possible, restore the profile in a separate or disposable environment, open Edge, and export its favorites to HTML.

Raw profile-file copying can be incomplete or incompatible, and profile data can include more than favorites. The HTML export/import method is safer when you can use it.
Moving favorites from another browser
Edge can import browser data from supported browsers and from a favorites or bookmarks HTML file. For a Chrome or Firefox transfer, export bookmarks from that browser as HTML and import the file in Edge using Settings → Profiles → Import browser data. Internet Explorer support ended on June 15, 2022; use Edge’s available browser-data import options rather than relying on Internet Explorer as a current browser.

Quick troubleshooting
- Favorites are missing after Sync: Confirm both computers use the same Microsoft account and the intended Edge profile. Check Settings → Profiles → Sync and make sure Favorites is on.
- Favorites seem missing after import: Check the Favorites manager, the Imported folder, Other favorites, and nested folders—not just the Favorites bar.
- Duplicates appeared: The import may have added items alongside existing favorites. Export the destination collection before reorganizing or removing duplicates.
- Sync is still in progress: Keep Edge open and connected, then check again. Avoid deleting folders while another device may still be syncing.
- Need an immediate, controlled copy: Use HTML export/import. If the destination already has important favorites, export them first.
- Work or school account: Sync may be limited by organization policy; check with your administrator if the sync controls are unavailable.
Be careful when deleting synced favorites: a deletion can sync to other devices. Export a backup before making bulk changes.
FAQ
Can I transfer favorites to a different Microsoft account?
Yes. Export favorites to an HTML file from the old account’s Edge profile, then import that file into the new profile. Sync alone will not automatically bring favorites from one account into another.

Will an HTML export transfer my passwords?
No. Favorites HTML is for bookmarks and their organization, not saved passwords. Passwords need to be moved separately using an appropriate Edge sync or password-import method.
Will exporting remove favorites from my old computer?
No. Exporting creates a separate HTML copy; it leaves the original favorites in Edge.
What if the old computer no longer works?
If Favorites Sync was already enabled, sign in on the new computer with the same account and check that Favorites sync is on. Otherwise, you may need to recover the old Edge profile or a backup. Profile-file recovery is advanced and is not guaranteed.

Do not assume it will. Imported favorites may be added in a folder such as Imported. Back up the destination favorites first, then inspect the imported folder and organize the collections as needed.
