For a project, the choice turns on whether it needs fundraising, token distribution, or both—and on the platform’s eligibility rules and event terms. “Launchpad” and “launchpool” are not universal standards, so Binance’s rules below are examples, not industry-wide definitions.
What is the difference between a launchpad and a launchpool?
A launchpad is a platform or program for bringing a token project to users. Depending on the platform and event, it may include a direct token sale. A launchpool is a distribution mechanism: participants commit supported assets under event rules and receive a share of a project’s token rewards. Binance Academy describes Launchpool as a mechanism within its broader launch platform; other platforms may define or package these terms differently. Binance Academy’s guide was updated June 29, 2026.
The practical distinction is not simply “new project versus established project.” It is whether the project wants to sell tokens under specified allocation terms, distribute tokens as rewards to eligible participants, or pursue a platform offering that combines launch services. A reward distribution is not a promise of investment return: token value can change, and participation terms vary by event.
Which route fits the project’s objective?
| Project need | Potential fit | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Raise funds through a token sale | A launchpad event that explicitly includes a sale | Sale pricing, allocation method, participant eligibility, sale schedule, and the platform’s current rules |
| Distribute tokens to platform users without a sale as the central mechanism | A launchpool-style reward event | Reward pool size, eligible assets, lock or farming window, reward calculation, and claim or unlock terms |
| Reach users with a token that already exists or is circulating | Depends on the platform; Binance says its Launchpool may accept projects with circulating tokens | Whether the platform currently accepts this stage and whether event terms suit the project |
| Prepare for a token generation event | Potentially a launchpad offering, subject to the platform’s criteria | Whether the project meets current stage requirements and passes review |
These are decision prompts, not guarantees of access or outcomes. The available format, audience, economics, and application process are platform-specific; the word used for a program alone does not establish its mechanics.

How Binance Launchpad and Launchpool work
Launchpad: potentially a direct token sale
Binance describes Launchpad as its wider token-launch platform and says some projects may have direct token-sale events. For a project seeking a sale, the relevant details are the specific sale’s rules: who may participate, how allocations are determined, and what schedule or other conditions apply. Do not assume every launchpad event is a sale or that every platform uses Binance’s structure.
Launchpool: rewards for locking supported assets
On Binance Launchpool, participants lock supported assets in designated pools and receive project tokens according to their share of the relevant pool. Binance Support says rewards accrue hourly and can be claimed before the event period ends. Supported assets, reward allocations, and event windows are specific to each event; consult the current announcement and terms rather than relying on a past event’s details. Binance’s Launchpool support page was updated March 25, 2026.
Binance says locked assets remain in the user’s possession and can be unlocked, but that should not be read as a guarantee against exposure or loss. The value of the committed asset and the reward token can fluctuate, and the applicable event terms govern access and timing.
Project stage: Binance’s distinction is platform-specific
Binance’s project-listing guidance says direct listing and Launchpool are open to projects that either have tokens circulating on the market or have not issued a coin, while Launchpad is limited to relatively earlier-stage projects that have not yet held a token generation event. This is Binance’s stated policy, not a general definition of launchpads and launchpools. The guidance was published June 18, 2021, so verify the current application form and criteria before using it to plan a launch. Binance’s listing guidance also describes project evaluation factors.

Eligibility, event terms, and access checks
Before selecting a route, compare the actual program rules on both the project and participant sides. A technically suitable event may not reach the intended audience if participants cannot access it in relevant jurisdictions, or if its asset requirements do not fit the project’s distribution goals.
- For the project: Confirm whether the platform accepts the project’s stage, token status, and proposed event type.
- For participants: Check supported assets, lock or farming dates, reward calculation, distribution schedule, and claim or unlock procedure.
- For access: Review identity-verification requirements and jurisdiction restrictions. Binance’s current support page says Launchpool requires identity verification and an eligible jurisdiction; its excluded-location list is not exhaustive and may change.
- For economics: Distinguish sale proceeds from token rewards, and assess the amount and timing of any distribution against the project’s own token plan.
- For volatility: Recheck terms on the event page. Supported assets, allocations, rates, dates, and eligibility can vary or change.
Applying does not mean acceptance
Binance says projects can apply for Launchpad or Launchpool consideration through its listing process, which includes due diligence. Its guidance says the founder or CEO should submit the application and discusses the product, team, and adoption as evaluation considerations. Binance also states that contact after an initial review does not guarantee listing. Treat an application as a request for consideration, not a commitment, and do not interpret platform review as a guarantee of project quality, token performance, or a successful launch.
A practical decision sequence
- Define the primary objective. If fundraising through a sale is central, investigate a launchpad event that explicitly offers one. If distribution is the main goal, assess a reward-based launchpool mechanism.
- Match the project’s stage to live criteria. Check token issuance and circulation status against the specific platform’s current application rules.
- Model the mechanics. For a sale, understand pricing and allocation. For a pool, understand eligible assets, reward share, lock window, distribution, and unlock conditions.
- Check audience access. Confirm that target participants can meet verification, jurisdiction, and asset requirements.
- Submit only with realistic expectations. Review the application requirements and prepare project information, while allowing for rejection or changes in platform criteria.
Is one option better for every project?
No. A launchpad may be more appropriate when the project seeks a sale and meets that platform’s stage requirements; a launchpool may fit a distribution objective where the platform’s reward mechanics and audience are suitable. Neither label establishes which route raises more, attracts better users, or produces stronger long-term outcomes. The official materials cited here explain mechanics and criteria, not comparative success rates.
