That statement describes the operating-system architecture, not universal support for every ARM development board. A usable port still needs a compatible boot chain, kernel and board-support package, graphics drivers, middleware, security policy and a tested image.
What Tizen IVI 3.0 is
Tizen IVI 3.0 is the Linux-based Tizen profile created for in-vehicle infotainment. The Tizen Steering Group’s release archive describes it as an automotive operating system that combines general open-source projects with vehicle-specific components. The final release is identified by the engineering name M14.4.

The official IVI compliance specification targets application developers, infotainment head-unit implementers and Tier 1 automotive suppliers. It defines the operating environment that portable applications are expected to run in, rather than serving as a generic desktop distribution.
What the ARM support statement actually means
A Tizen IVI 3.0 M3 announcement recorded 64-bit support for both Intel and ARM architectures. Samsung’s broader Tizen 3.0 documentation also lists 64-bit Intel and ARM CPU support. A December 2014 Tizen archive describes the IVI profile across Intel 32-bit, Intel 64-bit and ARM platforms.
#1 Best Overall
- High-performance foundation line, ARM Cortex-M4 core with DSP and FPU, 512 Kbytes Flash, 180 MHz CPU, ART Accelerator, Dual QSPI
- On-board ST-LINK/V2-1 debugger/programmer with SWD connector
- Can be powered from USB
- Three LEDs, Two Push-buttons
- Support of wide choice of Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) including IAR, ARM Keil, GCC-based IDEs
Those are architecture-level claims. They do not establish that an arbitrary ARM board can boot a release image. The board needs a matching bootloader and kernel, working device drivers, a supported graphics path, the correct ABI and toolchain, and integrations for the infotainment hardware. An ARM label on a system-on-chip is therefore necessary in some deployments but not sufficient by itself.
ARM hardware named in the historical record
| Device or category | Published evidence | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Nexcom VTC 1010-IVI | The 2015 Tizen release archive reported GENIVI 7.0 compliance. | A historical reference platform; the record does not confirm current stock, downloads or ongoing vendor support. |
| MinnowBoard Max | The same 2015 archive reported GENIVI 7.0 compliance. | A historical compliance reference, not proof that a current image or maintenance program remains available. |
| Generic ARM development board | No source establishes universal board support. | Compatibility must be demonstrated with a board-specific BSP, image and validation results. |
GENIVI compliance should not be confused with merely running Linux. The IVI compliance specification says a compliant device must obtain Tizen Compliance certification for at least one profile and pass the applicable profile-specific tests.

Display, graphics and application runtime
Historical IVI 3.0 release material lists Wayland and the Weston compositor, along with a Crosswalk-based web runtime. GENIVI Layer Management, systemd and the surrounding Tizen platform services complete the basic process and display environment. On an ARM board, the GPU driver, compositor behavior, display outputs and any multi-screen arrangement must work together; CPU compatibility alone does not provide that.
Vehicle data and IVI services
The documented stack includes Automotive Message Broker and W3C-compliant vehicle Web APIs. These are the paths through which applications can consume vehicle information rather than talking directly to an arbitrary CAN or sensor driver. The December 2014 archive also highlighted Murphy policy management, Wayland, Automotive Message Broker and Crosswalk.
Rank #3
Security boundaries
Release material describes a three-domain SMACK rule system with Cynara authorization. A product port therefore has to carry over the intended labels, authorization policy and service boundaries, then adapt them to its own update and hardening model. A board that reaches the graphical shell without these controls is not an equivalent IVI deployment.
Build adaptation and milestone features
The final-release archive identified a Tizen IVI SDK for web applications, vehicle Web APIs and experimental Yocto Framework support for adapting images. An architecture presentation also described Automotive Message Broker, speech and media functions, Wi-Fi Direct, multi-user support, Miracast, Qt5 and SDK improvements as capabilities or roadmap items. They should be tied to the documented milestone rather than assumed to be present in every 3.0 image.

Samsung documentation from 2017 gave approximate language counts of 11 languages for speech-to-text and 28 for text-to-speech. Those figures describe that documentation’s software scope, not a guaranteed capability of every board build.

- Confirm the CPU and ABI. Identify whether the target is 32-bit or 64-bit ARM, select the matching toolchain and verify that the userspace and binary interfaces expected by the image are available.
- Secure the boot and kernel path. Establish ownership of the bootloader, kernel configuration, device tree, storage and recovery mechanism. Without a reproducible BSP, an image cannot be maintained reliably.
- Validate graphics first. Check the vendor GPU driver, Wayland and Weston behavior, display connectors, hardware acceleration and any required multi-display layout before integrating application features.
- Expose vehicle I/O through the intended middleware. Map CAN and other vehicle signals into Automotive Message Broker or an equivalent integration layer, then test the vehicle Web APIs that applications use.
- Apply the security model. Port SMACK domains and Cynara authorization rules, define service permissions and include an update and recovery strategy appropriate for a production head unit.
- Make the build reproducible. Evaluate the experimental Yocto integration, document patches and pin the kernel, drivers and middleware versions so the image can be rebuilt after hardware or supplier changes.
- Run the applicable profile validation. Treat certification and profile-specific compliance tests as a property of the complete head unit and application stack, not just the ARM processor or base operating system.
Is Tizen IVI 3.0 still available for automotive development?
As of 2026, current availability of an official Tizen IVI 3.0 image, SDK and commercial support is not verified by the cited historical material. The release archives establish what the platform supported at the time, but they do not confirm a maintained download channel, current board-support packages, supplier stock or an active certification program.
