Does Basecamp have a built-in time tracker?
Yes. Basecamp 5 includes Timesheets, which let project members record hours against a project or a specific item. The feature is enabled per project, not globally for every project. Basecamp’s Timesheets help article, last updated August 24, 2026, documents the current workflow.

How to enable Timesheets in a Basecamp 5 project
- Open the project and click its name.
- Enable Timesheet alongside the project’s other features.
- Open the project’s three-dot menu to access its timesheet. To view timesheets across projects, go to Reports.
How to log and manage hours
Enter time from the project timesheet
Open the project timesheet and add the date, hours worked, person, and any optional note. Project entries are grouped by date, so use this view to review the project’s recorded time.
Log time against an item
You can also use the time-tracking option on a message, to-do, or other item. A timesheet opened from an item shows entries for that item or tool—not every entry in the project.

Edit, delete, or export entries
Review entries by date and edit or delete them as needed. The Timesheets report can be filtered, then downloaded as a CSV that reflects its current filters and date range. You can use that file for further analysis or to move data into another workflow.
When the built-in timesheet is enough—and when to consider an integration
Native Timesheets are a straightforward choice when your team mainly needs to record project or item-level hours and review or export them. Consider an integration if your workflow depends on a specific kind of timer, estimates, synchronization, automatic capture, or links to invoicing and accounting software. The right fit depends on your process; the directory descriptions are not independent product tests or endorsements.

Choose based on the work you need to do
- For simple project records: Start with native Timesheets if date-and-hours entries, item-level logging, and CSV reports meet your needs.
- For task timers or estimates: Compare the directory’s Clockify and Everhour descriptions, then check each vendor’s current setup and plan details.
- For browser buttons, sync, or automatic tracking: Investigate the relevant vendor’s current workflow and privacy information rather than assuming the directory description covers every detail.
- For billing or accounting workflows: Basecamp recognizes integrations in this category, but the directory alone does not establish which one suits your invoicing process. Verify the exact connection with the provider.
Is Basecamp Timesheets included in every plan?
Current plan pricing or availability is not established by the help article cited above. A June 26, 2023 37signals announcement described Timesheet in the context of Basecamp 4 and said it was included in Pro Unlimited or available as a $50-per-month account add-on. That is historical pricing, not a current Basecamp 5 price; check Basecamp’s current plan information before relying on it.
