There is no published area figure for The Witcher IV in square miles or kilometres. GamesRadar reports that CD Projekt Red executive producer Gosia Mitręga and game director Sebastian Kalemba described its map as “more or less” the size of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That is an approximate comparison, not an exact official measurement, and the report says it is unclear which regions the comparison covers.
Has CD Projekt Red officially confirmed The Witcher 4’s map size?
Not as a precise area. CD Projekt Red’s official announcement presents The Witcher IV as an upcoming single-player, open-world role-playing game and successor to The Witcher 3, with Ciri as its protagonist. It does not give the new game’s map area. The studio’s announcement calls it the start of a new Witcher saga.

The approximate size comparison comes from GamesRadar’s report, which attributes “more or less” the same-size description to interviews with Mitręga and Kalemba. It does not provide a square-mile or square-kilometre estimate. The most accurate answer is therefore: a reported comparison to The Witcher 3, but no quantified map size published in the official materials cited here.

Does that mean The Witcher 4 map is bigger than The Witcher 3?
The reported wording does not establish that it is bigger. “More or less the same” indicates an approximate comparison, not a claim that the new map exceeds its predecessor. Nor does the report settle what counts as the Witcher 3 map: it says it is unclear whether the comparison includes the additional regions of Skellige and Toussaint or refers only to the main map region.

Without a defined scope and matching area measurements for both games, a numerical size comparison would be speculation. The reported statement supports only a broad scale comparison.
What the Kovir technology demo does—and does not—show
CD Projekt Red’s 2025 presentation showed Kovir, a new region, but it does not establish the finished game’s full map boundaries or total area. The studio and PlayStation explicitly caution that the presentation is a technology demo, not gameplay of the completed game. As game director Sebastian Kalemba put it on the PlayStation Blog: “This isn’t gameplay of The Witcher 4.”

That distinction matters: seeing one setting in a technical demonstration is evidence that it was presented, not proof of how much territory the final game will contain.
What the published Witcher 3 figure means
CD Projekt Red’s historical strategy presentation described The Witcher 3’s open world as 35 times larger than The Witcher 2’s. That figure compares those two earlier games; it is not an area measurement for The Witcher IV and cannot be used to calculate the new map’s size. The presentation does not turn the reported approximate comparison into a precise figure for the next game.
