Citrix describes the flaw as a memory overflow that can cause denial of service. CISA added it to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, while contemporaneous reporting says exploitation is underway. Citrix’s advisory is the authority for affected builds and remediation; it does not confirm remote code execution (RCE).
What CVE-2026-88779 does
Citrix classifies CVE-2026-88779 as a memory overflow vulnerability that can lead to denial of service. The vendor lists a CVSS v4.0 base score of 8.7 and CWE-119. The stated precondition is that NetScaler ADC or NetScaler Gateway is configured as either a SAML SP or a SAML IdP. See the Citrix security bulletin for the vendor’s technical details.

Reports describe exploitation in attacks and say researchers are investigating possible RCE. That possibility is not a confirmed impact in Citrix’s bulletin: its documented impact is denial of service. Do not treat reports of investigation as proof that attackers can execute code.
Is your NetScaler affected?
Check three things: who manages the service, whether the SAML configuration precondition is present, and the appliance’s product branch and build. Citrix’s advisory covers customer-managed ADC and Gateway. Citrix says it updates Citrix-managed cloud services and Citrix-managed Adaptive Authentication. Secure Private Access Hybrid deployments that use NetScaler instances are included, and those customer-managed instances need to be upgraded.

Check for the SAML configuration
On the appliance, inspect the configuration for the command corresponding to the role it performs:
add authentication samlActionindicates a SAML SP configuration.add authentication samlIdPProfileindicates a SAML IdP configuration.
Citrix provides these configuration checks in its advisory. If neither appears, the stated SAML precondition may be absent, but verify the complete configuration and applicable product branch; do not treat one search result as a substitute for routine security updates.

Compare the installed build with the affected thresholds
Citrix lists the following affected ranges and fixed builds. “Before” means builds earlier than the stated threshold; confirm the current advisory and the exact branch, especially for FIPS and NDcPP editions, before changing production systems.

Which action should administrators take?
- Identify management responsibility. For customer-managed ADC or Gateway, inventory the deployed instances, including NetScaler instances in Secure Private Access Hybrid. Citrix says its teams update Citrix-managed cloud services and Citrix-managed Adaptive Authentication.
- Confirm branch, edition, and build. Record whether each appliance is 14.1, 13.1, FIPS, or NDcPP, then compare it with the matching threshold above.
- Review SAML configuration. Check for the SP and IdP configuration commands described above to determine whether the vendor’s stated precondition is present.
- Upgrade affected customer-managed appliances. Apply the fixed build Citrix lists for the exact branch and edition, following the vendor’s current instructions and your organization’s change-control process.
- Verify completion and catalog guidance. Confirm the running build after the upgrade and check the current Citrix bulletin and CISA KEV entry for any changed instructions or deadlines.
NVD’s record, which reproduces CISA catalog information, says CVE-2026-88779 was added to KEV on October 4, 2026, with a listed due date of October 7, 2026. Its listed action is to apply mitigations according to vendor instructions and CISA BOD 26-04 guidance. Those dates and requirements can change; consult the current NVD record and CISA catalog instructions rather than relying on a past deadline.
How CVE-2026-88779 differs from other NetScaler reports
Keep this issue separate from other NetScaler vulnerabilities disclosed around the same period. For CVE-2026-88779, the Citrix bulletin ties exposure to SAML SP or IdP configuration and documents denial of service. The fact that reporting calls it a zero-day and describes active exploitation does not establish a different vendor-confirmed impact or make every NetScaler installation vulnerable.
The reviewed sources do not provide an incident count, affected-device total, or loss figure for this CVE. CISA KEV inclusion is an operational signal to prioritize remediation, not a measure of how many organizations have been compromised.
