Will your existing Witcher 3 saves work?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED’s official Remastered FAQ, accessed October 7, 2026, says save files remain compatible and cross-progression continues to work as before.

How cross-progression works
The FAQ confirms that cross-progression remains functional. In its December 12, 2022 update notes, CD PROJEKT RED described the feature as automatically uploading the latest save for each save type to the cloud. Those notes say the feature becomes available after you log into your account. This is the earlier operational description; the current FAQ does not restate every setup step.

Which platforms have the Remastered version?
The September 29, 2026 release is available on these platforms. On PC, the announcement names the following storefronts:
- PC: Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered FAQ also says Nintendo Switch owners can claim the Remastered version free on Nintendo Switch 2 once it is released. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not listed as Remastered upgrade platforms; their existing versions remain unchanged.
Do you have to buy the game again?
If you previously bought a physical or digital copy, CD PROJEKT RED says you can upgrade for free within the same platform ecosystem. The company announced this on September 28, 2026, ahead of release. The rule concerns the platform ecosystem: owning a copy on one platform does not, by itself, grant a free copy in another ecosystem.
Save compatibility and purchase entitlement are separate matters. A save may remain compatible while your existing purchase still does not qualify for a free copy on a different platform.

How to get Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine
According to the current official FAQ, update the base game to install Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Players who previously bought either expansion keep it in their library; its content is patched into the base game. Both expansions can still be started separately from the main menu, and existing achievements and trophies are unaffected.
The FAQ says the standalone expansion listings have been delisted and the base-game listing has been replaced by the Complete Edition. On PS4 and Xbox One, the two expansions are available to download for free. Those legacy-console versions remain unchanged rather than becoming Remastered versions.
What is new in Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED describes the edition as bringing upgraded visuals and performance, revised combat and animations, an overhauled skill tree, cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, and an expanded photo mode. Its September 28 feature announcement also cites updated textures and models, improved foliage lighting and shading, DirectX 12 rendering, and an in-game mod.io tool for cross-platform mods.
