To find them, check boards in each region and distinguish contract notices from other activities posted there; then use the quest index and regional walkthroughs to locate a specific contract and plan around its suggested level.
What counts as a Witcher contract?
A contract is an optional quest in which an NPC hires Geralt to investigate and deal with a monster threat. Some begin through a conversation; others are picked up from a notice board. Boards also list non-contract activities, so collecting a notice does not necessarily mean a contract has started. The Witcher Wiki contract list and its quest index are useful for identifying quests and checking their listed region, location, source, and suggested level.

Find contracts by region
Regional browsing is the simplest way to narrow down a contract. The available walkthrough pages group coverage around Velen, Novigrad, and Toussaint; use the region where you are currently exploring rather than treating every board notice as a contract.
How to choose your next contract
- Check nearby notice boards. Read the postings and identify which ones are explicitly contract notices; boards can contain other activities as well.
- Check for a direct NPC lead. Some contracts are offered in conversation instead of being started from a board.
- Look up the quest entry. Confirm the contract name, region, starting source, and suggested level in the quest index before traveling.
- Check prerequisites and missability. If you are following a guide, look for any dependency or warning that the quest can be missed before committing to another quest or leaving the area.
- Use the walkthrough for the investigation. Follow the region-specific page for the contract’s local steps. Available references establish regional coverage, but do not verify every contract’s exact triggers, investigation sequence, reward, or failure conditions.
How many Witcher contracts are there?
Published counts differ, so there is no single reconciled total to rely on here. The Witcher Wiki reports 26 base-game contracts and three additional contracts with DLC; Prima Games’ Complete Edition overview describes Blood and Wine as adding seven Witcher contracts. These are source-specific counts with potentially different scope or inclusion rules, not official statistics that can safely be combined into a definitive grand total.
