Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The exact model MMS1X00-N5400 appears in a reseller listing, but the NVIDIA documentation available for this quick look identifies a different, similarly named model: MMS1X00-NS400, ordering number 980-9I068-00NM00. NVIDIA’s NS400 specifications should not be treated as confirmed specifications for N5400. The distinction matters before choosing a host, switch, or fiber cable.
What is confirmed about MMS1X00-N5400?
A reseller listing names MMS1X00-N5400 and describes it as a 400Gbps QSFP112 optic operating at 1310nm, with claimed compatibility for ConnectX-8 and Spectrum-X/GB300 use. Those are reseller claims; the NVIDIA product documents cited here do not confirm the exact N5400 model, its ordering number, specifications, or compatibility.

NVIDIA’s published material instead covers MMS1X00-NS400, part number 980-9I068-00NM00. The two model strings are similar, but the available sources do not establish that they identify the same product. Verify the label and ordering number with the seller or NVIDIA before relying on NS400 specifications for an N5400 purchase.

These details are useful for identifying the adjacent official model, but they do not resolve N5400’s identity or establish that its hardware is interchangeable.
Reach depends on the documented setup
NVIDIA’s overview describes NS400 use with QSFP112 adapter or DPU connections, including ConnectX-7 and BlueField-3, and a twin-port 2x400G OSFP transceiver in a Quantum-2 InfiniBand or Spectrum-4 Ethernet switch. It says QSFP112 ports are not for use in switches and notes that both fibers connected to the twin-port transceiver must be the same type.

The overview includes a 500-meter crossover-cable description, while a particular use-case passage says each cable can link to the optic up to 100 meters. These statements refer to different contexts; do not assume either figure applies to every end-to-end link. Confirm reach for the specific endpoints, cable, and topology in current platform documentation.

Check these details before selecting an optic or cable
- Confirm the exact part. Check the printed model and ordering number. NVIDIA’s cited documents identify NS400 as 980-9I068-00NM00; they do not map N5400 to that number.
- Check both endpoints. Verify cage and port form factors, supported platform and firmware, and whether the intended link is Ethernet or InfiniBand. A QSFP112 module should not be assumed to fit or be supported in a switch port simply because a switch appears elsewhere in a product overview.
- Match the optical interface. For NS400, NVIDIA documents single-mode DR4 and MPO-12/APC. NVIDIA identifies APC connectors by a green connector shell and says APC is not compatible with aqua UPC. This guidance describes the NS400 interface, not a verified N5400 interface.
- Verify the cable end to end. A single-mode MPO-12/APC crossover fiber cable is a reasonable category to investigate for the documented NS400 setup. Confirm connector gender, polarity, fiber direction, both endpoint interfaces, and the required distance before ordering; no specific cable is confirmed here for N5400.
- Confirm platform status and operating limits. NVIDIA compatibility lists associate NS400 part number 980-9I068-00NM00 with ConnectX-8 firmware compatibility and label it “P-Rel”; another NVIDIA list describes the same model as 500m and marks it “Prototype.” These labels belong to their respective documents and versions, not a universal current status. Check the current documentation for the exact hardware and firmware in use, along with power and thermal requirements.
What to take away from the similar model names
- N5400: exact name and stated 400Gbps/1310nm details come from a reseller listing; the cited NVIDIA materials do not confirm them.
- NS400: NVIDIA documents a 400Gb/s QSFP112 single-mode DR4 transceiver at 1310nm with an MPO-12/APC interface and up to 500m specified reach, subject to the configuration-specific qualifications above.
- Buying decision: treat N5400 and NS400 as distinct unless the manufacturer or seller provides a verifiable mapping. Confirm the module, platform, and cable together rather than selecting by a similar model name.
