When several coding agents run at once, the hard part may be noticing which one needs you. ccdeck is a local dashboard built by Bargan Constantin to make activity across Claude Code and Codex sessions easier to scan—and to bring sessions waiting for human input to the top.
Why attention became the bottleneck
In Bargan Constantin’s account, the problem emerged while four agents were running: one had stopped at a permission prompt, but he found out only after clicking through terminal tabs. The agent was not slow; the wait was simply easy to miss.

There was a second visibility problem. A terminal’s interleaved scroll made it difficult to follow the relationships among a main agent, its subagents, and their tool calls. Constantin wanted to answer practical questions at a glance: “what is running right now?”, “what did that subagent do?”, “which one is stuck?”, and “what is this costing?”

That is the premise behind ccdeck: when agents work concurrently, the operator’s attention—not just token supply—can become the scarce resource. What ccdeck does
Constantin describes ccdeck as a local dashboard for Claude Code and Codex sessions. It presents agent activity and highlights sessions that have stopped for a permission prompt, a question, or a finished turn. Sessions awaiting human input rise to the top, ordered by how long they have been waiting; a count in the top bar points to the oldest wait.
The dashboard is meant to help you find the terminal that needs your attention, not replace it. As Constantin puts it, “It cannot answer a prompt for you either. You still switch to the terminal. It tells you which one.” You still handle the actual prompt in the agent’s terminal.

What “local” and “read-only” mean here
The author says session prompts, files, project names, and paths remain on the machine. He also says the hook that reports events to the local dashboard cannot allow, deny, or rewrite tool calls. That limits the hook’s ability to participate in an agent’s decisions, but it is not a claim that every part of the application is strictly read-only: ccdeck manages two tools it depends on and refreshes a Codex token used to read quota information.

Usage reporting is enabled by default, according to his article, and can be disabled with a switch. The article does not specify the switch’s name or location, so check the project’s current documentation before relying on a particular setting.

Where its visibility has limits
Constantin says Codex does not record an approval request in its log. As a result, ccdeck does not show Codex sessions as waiting for approval. A tool name displayed next to a wait is an inference, not a confirmed record of the request, and the article says it is labeled that way.
This matters if you are deciding whether the dashboard can be your complete queue of human approvals: based on the creator’s description, it cannot reliably surface that particular Codex wait state. Its visibility depends on what the underlying tools expose.

How the project developed
Constantin says the first commit was made on June 12, 2026. It was a live graph of Claude Code agents fed by Claude Code hooks; versions 0.1 through 0.6 were committed that day. By late September 2026, he reported more than 3,000 commits and about 390 tagged releases. Those counts are the creator’s figures, not independently verified repository statistics.
The article also reports a timing problem and fix: in a stalled-dashboard hook scenario, the whole process took 1.84 seconds while idle and up to 2.19 seconds on a loaded machine. The original internal deadline left out shell startup, Node startup, and reading a large payload. Constantin says he changed the cap to start at process launch and describes a three-second declared timeout as a backstop. These are self-reported measurements; the article does not establish an independent test method, and the figures should not be treated as benchmarks for other machines or workloads.

How to try ccdeck
The creator’s article lists two ways to get started: run npx ccdeck or use the desktop app, which it says is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux. It identifies the project as licensed under AGPL-3.0. Check the project’s current site or repository for installation instructions and availability, since the article’s details reflect its October 1, 2026 publication.
Whether ccdeck is useful depends on the shape of your work. Its stated purpose fits a workflow with multiple concurrent sessions where finding a blocked agent is harder than switching to it. It is less suited to anyone who needs a dashboard to answer prompts, change tool calls, or reveal Codex approval waits that are absent from the underlying log.
