Short answer: The community tlg_pc port of The Last Guardian is built to run natively on Linux or Windows, with Vulkan graphics and a documented steady 30 FPS target. It also exposes experimental 60 FPS and unlocked modes, but there is no controlled Steam Deck OLED benchmark proving that those modes hold their targets. Valve says the OLED and LCD Steam Deck models were designed to the same performance specification, so OLED should not be treated as a faster version for this game. SteamOS 3.9.2 may improve system behavior, but its September 25, 2026 release notes do not claim a game-specific performance increase.

What the new port is—and what it is not

HayatoG’s tlg_pc is a community port of the PS4 version of The Last Guardian. It runs the original game code without a CPU emulator and translates the PS4 graphics API to Vulkan. The project provides Linux x86-64 and Windows builds, supports controllers plus mouse and keyboard, and includes autosave and Continue functionality.

This is not an official Sony PC release. No game files are distributed with the project. You need your own PS4 copy, dumped from your own console, specifically title ID CUSA03627 with update 01.03. That requirement is separate from installing the port itself.

Expected frame rate on Steam Deck OLED

30 FPS is the documented baseline

The project lists a steady 30 FPS mode matching the PS4 version. That is the appropriate starting point on a Steam Deck OLED: it is the mode the developers describe as stable rather than experimental.

  • Wi-Fi 6E

60 FPS remains experimental

An optional 60 FPS mode and an unlocked-frame-rate mode are available, but both are explicitly still being tested. The existence of a setting does not establish that the Deck OLED can sustain 60 FPS throughout gameplay. The available project information contains no Deck-specific average FPS, 1% lows, frame-time graph, power draw, fan measurements, thermal data or battery-life result.

What the project has actually tested

The port’s status information reports sessions of more than 10 minutes covering boot, menus, the introduction and gameplay without failures. Its listed Linux testing was performed on Nobara and Fedora 44, not in a controlled Steam Deck OLED test on SteamOS 3.9.2. Those sessions support basic functionality, not a performance guarantee for Valve’s handheld.

OLED versus LCD: does the newer Deck run it faster?

Valve’s support guidance says the OLED model was designed to the same performance specification as the LCD model, and that Steam Deck Verified ratings apply to both. For The Last Guardian, that means the OLED display does not create a higher CPU or GPU tier. Any frame-rate difference would have to come from software settings, power limits, thermals, or test conditions—not from the OLED panel alone.

What SteamOS 3.9.2 changes

Valve released SteamOS 3.9.2 for the Beta and Preview channels on September 25, 2026. The release notes describe it as a test-channel update with changes relative to stable SteamOS 3.8, not as a stable release that guarantees compatibility or performance for this port.

The updated AMD APU ensures high-speed performance for AAA titles while maintaining incredible energy efficiency.
  • 【3X Faster Downloads with Wi-Fi 6E】 Never wait for a game again. Equipped with Wi-Fi 6E, this Steam Deck OLED offers increased bandwidth and lower latency, delivering downloads up to 3 times faster than previous models. This ensures stable online play and rapid updates, making it the most reliable wireless gaming handheld for modern high-speed home networks.
  • 【Responsive Touch & Enhanced Connectivity】 Enjoy a vastly improved touchscreen with higher fidelity and faster haptics. We’ve added a dedicated Bluetooth antenna to improve connections for multiple controllers. Whether using the built-in trackpads or the included external controller, this allows for precision play in everything from FPS to complex strategy games.
  • A fix for VRR behavior involving the “Disable Frame Limiter” option.
  • Additional frame-limiter corrections.
  • A fix for hidden Wi-Fi networks that could fail on the first connection attempt.
  • Boot-speed and boot-logo regression fixes.
  • Virtual-keyboard language-input fixes.
  • Remote Play fixes.
  • General security and stability updates.

The VRR and frame-limiter fixes could make system-level frame pacing or display behavior more predictable when the relevant options are used. Valve’s notes do not benchmark The Last Guardian, however, so they cannot be used to claim that SteamOS 3.9.2 unlocks 60 FPS.

Requirements before installing

  • A Steam Deck running SteamOS 3.6 or newer; the project provides a Linux x86-64 build.
  • A Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU.
  • About 25 GB of free storage for the merged game data.
  • Your own PS4 dump of CUSA03627 with update 01.03.
  • Enough storage for the port files and your legally obtained game data.

The project lists 6 GB of VRAM as a recommended PC graphics specification. That is a PC-oriented recommendation and does not constitute a published Steam Deck compatibility result; the available material does not document how the Deck’s shared-memory architecture compares with that figure.

Practical setup path on a Deck

  1. Check the platform: confirm that the Deck is on SteamOS 3.6 or newer and that its graphics stack supports Vulkan 1.3.
  2. Prepare the game data: create your own PS4 dump for CUSA03627 and apply update 01.03. The port does not supply these files.
  3. Reserve storage: keep approximately 25 GB free for the merged data, plus space for the downloaded Linux build and any backups.
  4. Install the Linux build: obtain the project’s Linux x86-64 release and follow its supplied installation instructions, pointing it to your own game data. The exact launcher labels can change between releases.
  5. Test the stable mode first: launch with the documented 30 FPS setting and verify controller input, audio, saves and Continue before changing frame-rate options.
  6. Experiment only after the baseline works: try 60 FPS or unlocked mode if you accept possible instability or uneven frame pacing. Record settings and revert to 30 FPS if gameplay becomes inconsistent.

Graphics and control options

The port supports native 1080p output, optional SMAA anti-aliasing, RCAS/CAS sharpening and color controls. It supports DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox and 8BitDo controllers, along with mouse camera control and remapping. These options can change image quality and input preference, but the supplied information does not provide Deck-specific performance costs for each setting.

What owners should conclude

For a Steam Deck OLED owner, the defensible expectation is a playable native port at its documented 30 FPS target, provided the required dump, update and Vulkan-capable environment are in place. The OLED model does not bring a documented performance advantage over LCD. SteamOS 3.9.2 is a beta/preview platform update with useful frame-limiter and stability fixes, not proof of a game-specific speed boost. Treat 60 FPS as an experiment rather than a promised result.
