The change applies to the foundation—not to LibreOffice: the software’s name, logo and visual identity remain unchanged.
Why The Document Foundation is adopting a separate identity
Since its founding in 2010, TDF used the LibreOffice logo to represent itself. The foundation says that approach made sense when recognition was focused on the young software project. Now its work also includes the Open Document Format standard and policy discussions about interoperability and digital sovereignty. TDF says an institutional identity helps distinguish that broader work from the LibreOffice application.

The distinction is between the organization and the software it hosts: TDF’s new identity represents the foundation and its community in institutional settings; the LibreOffice identity continues to represent the software. The announcement, authored by Italo Vignoli and dated 9 October 2026, describes the change as coming sixteen years after the foundation began using the LibreOffice logo. Read TDF’s announcement.
What the new visual identity includes
The identity combines a stylized page logomark, a green-and-neutral colour palette, and Inter, a typeface designed by Rasmus Andersson and released under the SIL Open Font License. TDF says Inter can be used in LibreOffice or another application without restrictions under that license.
#1 Best Overall
TDF also says every text-and-background combination recommended in its guide meets WCAG 2.1 contrast requirements. The announcement does not include test results or a separate conformance report, so this is the foundation’s stated claim rather than independently documented verification.
What is changing—and what is not
The new mark and visual system identify The Document Foundation. They do not replace LibreOffice’s identity. TDF’s announcement states: “Nothing changes for LibreOffice. Its name, logo and visual identity remain exactly as they are.”
In practical terms, use the foundation’s identity for materials about TDF as an organization, and retain the LibreOffice logo for pages and materials specifically about the software.

Where to get the assets and how the rollout will work
TDF’s logo package includes SVG and PNG versions, a favicon, and social-media avatars, according to the announcement. The accompanying Visual Identity Style Guide explains which logo version to use in different contexts and covers the palette, typography and consistency rules. Use of the TDF logo is governed by the foundation’s trademark policy.
Over the coming months, TDF plans to apply the new identity to its website, social accounts and institutional documents. Writer and Impress templates are also planned. The announcement does not provide a more specific schedule.
