The Simpsons: Hit & Run is the best follow-up if you want to explore Springfield and take on driving missions. If what you liked most was the 2007 game’s story, character abilities and jokes about video games, that game remains the closest match. These are mostly legacy releases, though, so a good recommendation does not necessarily mean an easy current-console purchase.

Hit & Run is the natural next pick if the appeal of The Simpsons Game was seeing Springfield as a place to move through, rather than simply playing another level-based action game. Its larger explorable setting, driving missions and comic adventure structure give it a distinct rhythm while keeping the series’ familiar characters and world at the center.
#1 Best Overall
- Action-comedy with hilarious, sprawling, and mind-busting storyline crafted by TV show's Emmy Award-winning writers
- Full cast of voice actors from the TV show and movie lend to the ultimate authenticity and realism of the game
- Play as all members of your favorite dysfunctional TV family as you battle to save them from video-game purgatory
- Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa use exciting, all-new powers to save the world from rising chaos
- Journey through all of Springfield, vanquish an array of villains, and fight through parodies of multiple popular games
It originally appeared on PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and Windows. The sources cited here do not establish a modern release, so check the exact platform and region before looking for a copy; owning a newer console does not by itself establish that the game will run on it.
Closest match for story and self-aware humor: The Simpsons Game
If you have already played the 2007 game, it is still the closest fit for the things that make it distinctive: a family-centered story, playable characters with different abilities, action-platforming and jokes about video-game conventions. Its premise lets the Simpsons recognize that they are inside a game and parody the industry around them. GameSpot’s October 2, 2007 interview discusses that design idea; ABC News also described the game’s premise in a July 16, 2007 report.

The game had versions for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo DS. Those are distinct releases on older hardware, not evidence of one interchangeable edition or a current version.
For driving without a longer adventure: The Simpsons Road Rage
Road Rage is the more focused choice if you mainly want to drive around and prefer an arcade loop to exploring a longer adventure. It appeared on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and Game Boy Advance. Its appeal is the change of pace: pick it for arcade driving, not as a substitute for Hit & Run’s broader exploration.
Rank #3
- Massively Skateable Springfield Environments
- Get Tricky on Springfield Landmarks
- Shred and Grind Head To Head.
- Events will set off hidden animated gags just like you'd see in actual Simpsons episodes
- Fun and funny multiplayer driving modes for up to 4 players
For co-op and classic arcade action: The Simpsons Arcade Game
The 1991 Arcade Game is the choice for cooperative beat-’em-up action: it is built around a more direct, older arcade style than the 2007 game’s story and platforming. Its history includes the arcade release and older computer and console ports. The references here do not establish which versions are currently sold or playable on modern systems.

The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants (1991) is worth considering if you specifically want a retro 2D platform challenge. It is not a direct gameplay sequel to The Simpsons Game, and the sources cited here do not establish current availability or a complete platform list.

Availability, revival rumors and a game to cross off
Check legacy platforms before you buy
The leading recommendations are older releases. Confirm the title, platform, region and condition of any physical copy before purchasing; the platform record alone cannot tell you whether a listing is available, what it costs, or whether a particular copy includes its original materials. None of the sources cited here establishes present-day storefront availability or broad modern-console compatibility.
Hit & Run has no confirmed return
As of October 4, 2026, a revival of Hit & Run has not been confirmed in the reporting cited here. PC Gamer reported in March 2026 that Matt Selman said, “Never say never.” Its August reporting described a suggestive comment from Matt Groening followed immediately by Selman’s “Or not.” Neither exchange amounts to an announcement, release date or platform confirmation. PC Gamer’s March 14, 2026 report provides the earlier context.
Tapped Out is no longer a play option
The Simpsons: Tapped Out shut down on January 25, 2025, according to the Wikisimpsons game catalog. It is historical context, not a current recommendation.
