The Tensor G5 in Google’s Pixel 10 generation is a meaningful step up on paper from the Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9 generation, but the available numbers do not prove a matching improvement in every app or workload. Google claims an average 34% CPU increase and up to 60% more TPU performance; a dated Geekbench 6 chart snapshot also shows higher CPU scores for Pixel 10 than Pixel 9. Those are different kinds of evidence, not a guarantee of better battery life, gaming, or sustained speed.
For most buyers, this is a comparison between phones rather than standalone processors: Pixel 10 is the direct G5 example, and Pixel 9 is the G4 comparison point. Your choice should depend on the exact phone and its current price as well as what you expect the chip to do.

The Geekbench figures are user-submitted Geekbench 6 chart results viewed on October 7, 2026, not fixed specifications or a controlled test that swaps only the processor. Google’s percentages are vendor claims, not independent benchmark measurements.
What Google says changed in Tensor G5
Google describes Tensor G5 as a deeper custom-silicon update spanning “architecture to manufacturing.” In its Pixel 10 announcement, Google says the G5’s TPU is “up to 60% more powerful” for on-device AI and that compute cores have double-digit performance increases, including a CPU that is “on average 34% faster” than Tensor G4. The qualifications matter: “up to” is not a typical improvement promised for every AI task, and an average CPU gain does not mean every app runs 34% faster.

These claims are useful for understanding Google’s intent for the new chip, but they do not provide a full architecture comparison, an independent test method, or a workload-by-workload performance table. Treat them as Google’s positioning for the Pixel 10 generation.
Geekbench 6 results: Pixel 10 versus Pixel 9
Geekbench’s Pixel 10 device chart displays user-submitted Geekbench 6 results. In the chart snapshot accessed October 7, 2026, Pixel 10 with Tensor G5 scored 1,977 in single-core and 5,798 in multi-core. The same chart listed Pixel 9 with Tensor G4 at 1,514 single-core and 4,393 multi-core.

Both results favor Pixel 10 in this snapshot, consistent with the direction of Google’s CPU claim. But the chart compares results from two complete phone generations, and its user-submitted scores can change as new results arrive. Differences in devices and test conditions mean the scores should not be read as an isolated measurement of the G5-versus-G4 chip change.
What these scores do—and do not—tell you
CPU performance
Geekbench single-core and multi-core scores are CPU test results. They offer a useful point of comparison for certain compute tasks, but do not translate directly into a percentage improvement in everyday responsiveness. App behavior depends on the workload and the phone as a whole.
Gaming and graphics
The figures above are not graphics benchmarks. They do not establish GPU performance, game frame rates, or how consistently either phone performs during a long gaming session.
Heat, sustained speed and battery
The cited figures do not establish thermal behavior, throttling under extended load, or battery impact. If those are your deciding factors—especially for gaming or long video recording—look for controlled tests of the exact Pixel models and workload rather than inferring results from CPU scores.

AI performance and features
Google’s TPU claim concerns on-device AI performance, but the cited materials do not provide a third-party AI benchmark with a specified model, precision, or backend. Google also associates the Pixel 10 launch with Magic Cue, Pro Res Zoom, Auto Best Take and voice translations during phone calls with Live Translate. The announcement does not provide a complete Tensor G5/Tensor G4 feature-eligibility matrix, so it does not establish that every named feature requires G5 or is unavailable on G4 phones.

Consider Pixel 10 with Tensor G5 if
- You are choosing a Pixel and want the newer generation’s chip, alongside the features and hardware of the specific Pixel 10 model you are considering.
- You value Google’s stated CPU and on-device AI improvements, while understanding they are vendor claims rather than guarantees for every task.
- The current price and configuration make sense for you independently of benchmark scores.
Consider Pixel 9 with Tensor G4 if
- You are weighing the prior generation against Pixel 10 and the Pixel 9’s current price, condition and configuration better fit your needs.
- You do not have a specific workload that depends on the G5’s claimed improvements, and the G5’s higher chart scores alone do not justify changing your decision.
For an upgrade decision from Pixel 9 to Pixel 10, the benchmark snapshot shows higher Pixel 10 CPU results, but it cannot establish how much faster your everyday use will feel or whether an upgrade is worthwhile at a particular price.
