But TCL’s specifications alone cannot establish that it is the best mid-range TV—or support a firsthand recommendation. Here’s what the manufacturer says, what to check for your setup, and what remains unproven.
What the TCL QM7L is
TCL describes the QM7L as a 4K UHD SQD-Mini LED television with Google TV. TCL lists it in 55-, 65-, 75-, 85- and 98-inch sizes. Those details identify the range, but the specifications below are for the 55-inch model unless otherwise noted; confirm the documentation for the size you plan to buy. TCL’s Canadian 55-inch QM7L listing and its QM7L support page are the relevant starting points.

What the 55-inch model’s specifications mean for picture quality
TCL lists the 55QM7L as a 3840 × 2160 television with an HVA 2.0 Pro panel, QLED display technology and SQD-Mini LED local dimming. The listing gives up to 2,100+ dimming zones and peak brightness up to 3,000 nits. These are manufacturer-listed figures, not independent measurements of typical viewing performance. They do not by themselves show how the TV handles blooming around bright objects, reflections, viewing angles or HDR scenes in a real room.
TCL also states 100% BT.2020 color as a typical achievement and notes that results can vary with test environment, standards, equipment and production variation. Treat that as a vendor claim with the stated qualification, not a guarantee of what every unit or viewer will experience. TCL’s product specification lists Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support. Format support tells you which HDR standards the set accepts; it is not an independent assessment of HDR picture quality.

Gaming: check the specific HDMI port
TCL lists a 144 Hz panel refresh rate, VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro and Game Accelerator 288 for the 55QM7L. The stated HDMI modes are not identical across the four HDMI 2.1 ports, so connect a high-refresh-rate source to the appropriate input:
| 55QM7L input | TCL-listed capability | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| HDMI 1–2 | 4K at 144 Hz | Use one of these for a source that supports the listed high-refresh 4K mode. |
| HDMI 3 | 4K at 60 Hz | Does not have the 4K/144 Hz mode listed for HDMI 1–2. |
| HDMI 4 | 4K at 60 Hz; identified as eARC | Use this port for an eARC audio connection when that suits your setup. |
These are TCL’s specifications for the 55-inch model, not test results or a guarantee that every game, console or PC will output at 4K/144 Hz. The source device, game, settings and connection all matter. Check the manual for the exact size before buying or wiring around a particular input layout.

Smart TV, audio and installation details
For the 55QM7L, TCL lists Google TV, Chromecast, Google Assistant compatibility, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4. Its listed tuner is ATSC 1.0 / NTSC / Clear QAM. TCL also lists Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio format support. These are compatibility specifications; they do not establish the quality of the built-in speakers or guarantee a particular streaming-app experience in every region.
The 55-inch listing specifies VESA mounting with a 300 × 300 mm hole pattern, M6 screws and a 16 mm screw length. Before installing any wall mount, confirm the exact model’s manual, the mount’s supported VESA pattern and its load rating against the TV’s weight. Do not assume the 55-inch mounting details apply unchanged to larger versions.

Is the QM7L the best mid-range TV?
The official information establishes a feature-rich specification sheet, not a comparative ranking. It does not independently test picture quality, establish value against competing current TVs, or verify a reviewer’s ownership of a predecessor. TCL’s support site includes a separate QM7K Series support page, but that does not provide a tested comparison that proves the QM7L is superior or equivalent.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA sound buying verdict depends on the price and stock in your market and independent measurements of the image characteristics that matter in your room. For a shortlist, compare current local prices, native refresh and input modes, measured HDR and local-dimming performance, reflections and viewing angles, gaming compatibility, smart-TV needs, warranty and return terms. Without that evidence, the defensible conclusion is that the QM7L’s listed features make it worth evaluating—not that it has been shown to be the best choice.
