TCL NXTPAPER 14 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE: Which Android Tablet Should You Buy?

The TCL NXTPAPER 14 offers a larger matte screen; the Galaxy Tab S9 FE is lighter and includes S Pen support. Compare the tradeoffs before buying.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the TCL NXTPAPER 14 if you want a much larger matte screen for reading and media and do not mind carrying a 760g tablet or buying its T-Pen separately. Choose the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if you prefer a smaller, lighter device with S Pen support, microSD expansion and Samsung’s stated IP68 rating for the tablet and included pen. Neither is a universal winner: the right pick depends on screen size, portability, accessories and your local price.

Water and dust resistance IP54 rating listed by TCL Samsung says the tablet and included S Pen are IP68 rated under specified laboratory conditions

These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head test. In particular, battery capacity and rated playback figures do not establish which tablet lasts longer in everyday use.

Which screen suits your reading and media habits?

Choose TCL for a bigger, matte display

TCL lists a 14.3-inch, 2.4K NXTPAPER 3.0 display and describes a matte anti-glare surface, low-blue-light filtering, automatic brightness and color-temperature adjustments, reading and media modes, and reminders to take breaks. Its Canada listing specifies an IPS LCD, 2400 × 1600 resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio and 60Hz refresh rate. TCL frames these as display and comfort features; they are not proof of a medical or long-term eye-health benefit, nor a guarantee that every reader will find the screen more comfortable. See TCL’s NXTPAPER 14 product details.

Choose Samsung for a more compact conventional tablet

The S9 FE’s 10.9-inch TFT display has less screen area than the TCL’s, but its smaller format is easier to handle and carry. Samsung lists 2304 × 1440 pixels for the cited Wi-Fi model. If you want an everyday tablet for notes, browsing and video without prioritizing a paper-oriented screen, the Samsung’s form factor may be the more practical fit. How much portability matters

The TCL measures 322.41 × 222.02 × 6.95mm and weighs 760g, according to its product specifications. Samsung’s cited 256GB Wi-Fi model measures 165.8 × 254.3 × 6.5mm and weighs 523g. The TCL’s much larger screen therefore comes with a clear carry-weight tradeoff: it is better suited to a desk, lap or stationary reading spot than to buyers who want the lightest tablet for frequent travel.

Pen support, storage and performance

For handwriting and drawing

Samsung supports the S Pen and promotes note-taking with Samsung Notes and Goodnotes; the cited Samsung page describes the included pen as IP68 rated. TCL’s Canada listing identifies the T-Pen as optional, and says accessories may be sold separately or vary by market. TCL also describes an optional flip case with adjustable positions. Confirm the bundle and exact accessory compatibility for your region before purchase. See TCL Canada’s NXTPAPER 14 listing.

For apps, games and files

TCL lists a MediaTek Helio G99, 8GB of physical RAM and 256GB of storage, with up to 8GB of additional RAM expansion. That virtual expansion should not be treated as equivalent to physical memory. Samsung lists an octa-core processor with 2.4GHz and 2GHz CPU speeds, plus 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB configurations and microSD expansion up to 1TB. These specifications do not establish which tablet is faster; they are not a substitute for comparable performance testing. Samsung has the clearer stated advantage if expandable storage is important to you.

Battery, charging and durability

Battery figures are not directly comparable

TCL lists a 10,000mAh battery and 33W PD fast charging. Samsung lists an 8,000mAh typical battery for the cited model, with rated maximums of up to 18 hours of wireless video playback and up to 16 hours of Wi-Fi internet use. These are manufacturer figures, not matched real-world tests, so the TCL’s larger listed capacity alone does not prove longer runtime.

Samsung provides a specific IP68 test condition

Samsung says the Tab S9 FE and inbox S Pen are IP68 rated based on submersion in up to 1.5m of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The company warns that resistance can diminish over time and advises against beach or pool use; do not interpret the rating as making the tablet beach- or pool-proof. TCL lists an IP54 rating for the NXTPAPER 14. Samsung’s test-condition statement appears on its official product page.

Price and availability: compare local configurations

There is no like-for-like current price comparison established here. TCL Canada displayed the NXTPAPER 14 at C$359.99 with a crossed-out C$469.99, but the listing was marked sold out when observed; those figures are a regional storefront snapshot, not a promise of today’s price or stock. Samsung’s cited page is a specification listing rather than a directly comparable current selling price. Check local prices for the exact Wi-Fi or cellular and RAM/storage variant, and add the cost of a T-Pen or case if you need one with the TCL.

Which one should you buy?

  • Buy the TCL NXTPAPER 14 if screen size and its matte, reading-focused display are your priorities, and you are comfortable with its 760g weight and potentially separate pen and case costs.
  • Buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE if you want a lighter, smaller tablet with included S Pen support, expandable storage and Samsung’s stated IP68 rating.
  • Compare local deals before deciding if price is the deciding factor: the available regional listings do not support a current, like-for-like price verdict.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
