Turn on Accidental touch protection to reduce unintended screen input in a pocket or bag. Turn on Touch sensitivity when a screen protector is fitted and taps are not registering reliably. They address different problems, so changing one is not a substitute for the other.
What each setting does

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Series User Manual (EU English, revision 1.1) defines Accidental touch protection this way: “Set the device to prevent the screen from detecting touch input when it is in a dark place, such as a pocket or bag.” The two controls have distinct purposes: one targets dark-place input; the other increases sensitivity for screen-protector use.

How to change the settings
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Display.
- Turn on Accidental touch protection if you want to reduce unwanted input in a pocket or bag.
- If you use a screen protector and taps are not registering as expected, turn on Touch sensitivity.
- If touch response is too sensitive and no protective film is installed, turn Touch sensitivity off.
These labels and their location are documented in Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Series User Manual. Menus can differ by model and software version, and Samsung says some features are not available on every model. If you cannot find a control, check the manual for your exact Galaxy model.
If Touch sensitivity does not help
Check the protector’s fit before assuming the phone needs a different setting. Samsung Support identifies dust or air trapped underneath a protector, multiple layers of film, and peeling edges as possible causes of touchscreen problems. Third-party protectors or accessories may also affect operation. Remove or refit the protector as appropriate, following its maker’s guidance, then test touch response again.

Touch sensitivity is not a general fix for every touchscreen issue. Samsung specifically warns that leaving it on without a protective film can make the screen respond too sensitively and malfunction; switching it off is the recommended first change in that situation. If problems persist after checking the setting and protector, use Samsung support for your model rather than assuming the display is damaged or that the setting will resolve the fault. You do not need to buy a screen protector to access Touch sensitivity. If you already use one or are replacing it, choose a protector made for your exact Galaxy model and install it carefully. Samsung’s guidance shows why fit matters, but it does not establish that every protector performs equally or endorse a particular brand.
