The right option depends on your tablet: use the steps below for iPad, Pixel Tablet, other Android tablets, or Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Choose a method for your tablet

How to screenshot on an iPad without buttons
Use the AssistiveTouch menu
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and turn on AssistiveTouch. An on-screen menu button appears.
- Open the screen you want to capture, tap the AssistiveTouch button, then choose Screenshot.
- If Screenshot is not shown in the menu, open Customize Top Level Menu in AssistiveTouch settings and add the action if it is available.

Use a pointer and Hot Corners
If you use a pointer, Apple documents Dwell Control > Hot Corners as a way to trigger a selected action by holding the cursor still in a screen corner. Configure a corner to take a screenshot, then move the pointer there and dwell to trigger it. Menu availability can vary with iPadOS and configuration.

If that is the button you are trying to avoid, turn AssistiveTouch on in Settings or use Siri instead.

How to screenshot on a Pixel Tablet
Google documents an app-switcher method for Pixel tablets. Open the app or screen to capture, then use the steps matching your navigation setting:
- Gesture navigation: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold. Select the open app, then tap Screenshot.
- Three-button navigation: Tap Overview, select the open app, then tap Screenshot.
You can also say, “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” See Google’s Pixel screenshot instructions.

How to screenshot on other Android tablets
On many Android tablets, the Screenshot tile in Quick Settings is a convenient option. Swipe down twice from the top of the display, find Screenshot, and tap it. If the tile is missing, open the Quick Settings edit interface and add it if offered. Tile names and availability differ across manufacturers, so this is an option to check rather than a guarantee for every tablet.

Button-free screenshot options on Samsung Galaxy tablets
Galaxy Tab features vary by model, software version, and provider. Try the options your device supports; Samsung warns that some protected screens may block screenshots.
Palm swipe
On supported models, go to Settings > Advanced features > Palm swipe to capture and enable the setting. Swipe the edge of your hand across the display to capture the screen. If the setting is absent, the feature may not be supported on your model; Samsung recommends checking the Screenshot section of the device manual. Its Latin America support page shows a last update of January 30, 2026.

Voice command
Ask the assistant you use: “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot” or “Hey Google, take a screenshot.”

S Pen Screen write
On a compatible device, open Air command and choose Screen write. The tablet captures the current page and opens it for annotation and saving.

Tasks Edge panel
If your tablet has the Tasks Edge panel, add Take screenshot to its shortcuts. Open the panel from the edge handle and tap the shortcut. Availability and setup can differ across devices; Samsung outlines these options in its Galaxy screenshot support guide.

- Check the tablet, not just the brand. Confirm the exact model and operating-system version; phone-only instructions may not match a tablet.
- Search Settings. Try terms such as “Screenshot,” “AssistiveTouch,” “Palm swipe,” or “Assistant.” Labels and locations can differ.
- Check the relevant menu. On Android, inspect Quick Settings and its edit screen. On Pixel, use the app switcher steps above.
- Verify Galaxy Tab gesture support. If Palm swipe is not listed, check the model’s manual; the feature is not available on every model.
- Consider screen protection. If screenshots fail only in one app or on a particular screen, a privacy or security restriction may be blocking capture. Android and Samsung both identify restrictions as a possible cause.
- Check available storage. If the capture happens but does not save, Android’s troubleshooting guidance identifies full storage as one possible cause.
For the built-in methods above, you do not need to install a separate screenshot app. The system controls are the most direct starting point and avoid giving another app access to screen content.
