The important first step is checking which route your account actually qualifies for: a standard device purchase, JUMP! 2.0, or Yearly Upgrade. Each has different requirements, and upgrading through a financing program can end existing device payments or promotional credits.
Choose the upgrade route that fits your account
Before selecting a phone, check your T-Mobile account for upgrade eligibility and any program tied to your current device. T-Mobile’s upgrade eligibility guidance and JUMP! information can help explain what may apply, but eligibility and current offers are account-specific.

| Upgrade route | What qualifies you | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| JUMP! 2.0 | Protection360 enrollment, current EIP and wireless-service payments, at least 50% of the financed device cost paid, and an eligible trade-in in good working order. | You must return the current device. The remaining EIP amount covered is limited to 50% of the device’s original cost. |
| Yearly Upgrade | An eligible plan and a qualifying newly financed device on EIP for at least six months; at least half the device cost paid, current payments, and a good-working-order trade-in. | Upgrading ends the existing financing and any applicable device-promotion or deposit-reimbursement credits. |
| Standard device purchase or upgrade | Select a device and payment method, such as EIP or another available option; check account tools or visit a T-Mobile store. | Review the device offer, current financing balance, trade-in conditions, and any charge due at sale. |
For the current JUMP! 2.0 terms, T-Mobile says customers can upgrade as often as they like after reaching 50% paid, rather than being limited to two upgrades in 12 months. The stated transition from JUMP! 1.0 began August 31, 2026. T-Mobile describes the change on its JUMP! update page; check your account to confirm how the terms apply to you.
How to start an upgrade
- Check eligibility: Sign in to your T-Mobile account or use the T-Life app and look for the upgrade status or offers associated with your line. If the program or balance is unclear, contact T-Mobile or visit a store before proceeding.
- Compare the available paths: Confirm whether the offer is a standard purchase, JUMP! 2.0, or Yearly Upgrade. For a standard purchase, T-Mobile’s device-upgrade support page describes choosing a device, estimating trade-in value, and selecting a payment option.
- Read the offer terms for the exact phone: Check the required plan, trade-in model and condition, financing, and whether the offer is a bill-credit promotion. A displayed estimate is not a guarantee of final trade-in value.
- Review the order summary before confirming: Check the remaining device balance, any credits that would stop, the payment schedule, and the sale charges shown for your order. T-Mobile’s device-purchase support page lists a $35 Device Connection Charge as due at sale; verify the current order summary because fees and offers can change.
Protect your trade-in value and data
Trade-in requirements depend on the specific upgrade and promotion. JUMP! requires the returned phone to be in good working order. Before sending any phone, use T-Mobile’s trade-in instructions and follow the conditions shown for your offer.
#1 Best Overall
- Professionally inspected and fully functional renewed unit — each phone has been thoroughly tested, cleaned, and certified to ensure full network compatibility, display clarity, and battery performance like new.
- Brilliant 6.5” Super AMOLED Display: Enjoy vibrant colors and smooth visuals with a 90Hz refresh rate for seamless scrolling and viewing.
- Powerful 5G performance: Stay connected with fast data speeds and reliable coverage on T-Mobile’s 5G network (carrier-locked; not compatible with other carriers).
- 64GB internal storage + expandable memory: Easily store photos, videos, and apps with microSD support up to 1TB (card sold separately).
- Triple rear camera system: 50MP main camera, 5MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth sensor for capturing sharp photos and HD videos in any light.
- Back up anything you want to keep, then factory reset the phone.
- Remove passcodes, passwords, and other locks as instructed; a device sent with these features active may not qualify.
- Follow the shipping instructions and retain the tracking record. T-Mobile says a shipped trade-in not received within 30 days may lose a one-time trade-in credit and the associated device promotion.
- Keep in mind that assessment can change the estimated trade-in value. Under the JUMP! terms, recovery of a surrendered device is final, so do not send it until you have saved what you need.
Check financing and promotions before you commit
An upgrade may change more than the phone payment. In particular, T-Mobile says Yearly Upgrade ends the current device financing and any applicable device-promotion or deposit-reimbursement credits. That can alter the total cost of moving to a new device, even when the new phone itself is offered with a promotion. Compare the remaining balance and credits on your account with the new offer’s terms before accepting it.
No universal device price or promotion applies to every customer: available phones, offers, and eligibility depend on the account and can change. Use the final order details or ask T-Mobile to clarify any balance or credit that is not clear.
