Floccus is the best-documented free option in the sources reviewed for keeping the same native bookmarks in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Install its extension in each browser, connect each profile to the same storage backend, and follow the project’s setup guide. Floccus advises turning off each browser’s built-in bookmark sync while using it to reduce the risk of duplicate or damaged bookmark data. These are claims from Floccus’s documentation, not the result of hands-on testing.
What Floccus does—and what it needs
Floccus synchronizes bookmarks already stored in your browsers; it is not a separate bookmark library that replaces the browsers’ own bookmark interfaces. You continue to organize bookmarks in each browser. Floccus lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge as supported, and its project describes the software as free and open source. Safari is not currently listed as supported.

To synchronize between browsers, each Floccus profile needs to connect to a shared backend. Documented choices include Google Drive, Dropbox, Git, WebDAV-compatible storage, Nextcloud Bookmarks, Linkwarden, and KaraKeep. Choose a backend before you set up sync

Encryption is not documented as available for every backend. Floccus’s FAQ specifies configurable end-to-end encryption for WebDAV and Google Drive profiles; do not assume the same protection applies to other options.

Set up the same bookmarks in all three browsers
- Back up important bookmarks. Export or otherwise save a copy from each browser before the first sync. This is a sensible precaution, not a Floccus-stated product requirement.
- Install Floccus in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Use each browser’s extension store and follow the installation links in the Floccus guides. Store availability and browser compatibility can change.
- Create a profile in each browser. In the extension, choose the same backend and provide the required account or storage details. Use the guides for the backend-specific steps.
- Choose the bookmark folder and sync strategy. Review which folder is selected and the strategy shown in the profile before enabling ongoing synchronization. The exact choices depend on the backend and current extension interface.
- Disable built-in bookmark sync, as Floccus advises. Turn off the browsers’ native bookmark syncing to reduce conflicts between two systems attempting to synchronize the same data. This is the project’s setup recommendation, not a guarantee that conflicts otherwise will occur.
- Run the initial sync and inspect the result. Check the bookmarks in each browser against your saved copy before relying on ongoing sync. If the result is not what you expect, pause synchronization and consult the relevant Floccus guide before making further changes.
