For PS5 gaming, prioritize a TV that supports 4K at 120Hz, VRR and ALLM on the HDMI input you plan to use. Then choose for your room and connected devices: a bright-room LCD, an OLED picture, a lower-cost Mini LED, or extra HDMI 2.1 ports may matter more than a single “best” ranking. These five picks come from TechRadar’s 2026 guide; they are not a universal ranking or independent tests conducted for this article. Model names, specifications and availability vary by region and screen size.

What matters most in a PS5 TV

The PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120Hz output, but the console, game, TV, cable and selected HDMI input all need to support the intended signal. Sony notes that 120Hz output depends on a compatible game and display. A panel advertised above 120Hz does not make a PS5 game render at that rate.

  • 4K at 120Hz: Check that the exact TV model and the HDMI port you will use support this combination.
  • VRR: Variable refresh rate lets the display adjust its refresh rate in real time when both the TV and game support it. Sony cautions that results vary by TV.
  • ALLM: Auto Low Latency Mode can switch a compatible TV into its low-latency game mode automatically. HDMI 2.1 branding by itself does not confirm ALLM support; check the TV manual.
  • Input lag: Independent measurements can help compare responsiveness, but figures depend on test setup and picture mode. The figures below are TechRadar measurements, not guarantees for every setting.
  • Ports: Count the HDMI 2.1 inputs that provide the features you need. A soundbar connected through eARC or another console can use an input you might otherwise reserve for the PS5.

For PS5 gaming specifically, TechRadar’s comparison says the console does not support Dolby Vision gaming. Do not pay extra for Dolby Vision solely for PS5 gameplay; its relevance to other sources is a separate question.

Sony BRAVIA 8 II Buyers who want Sony’s PS5-oriented features and built-in sound 120Hz; two HDMI 2.1 ports; 16.3ms measured input lag; Auto HDR Tone Mapping when connected to a PS5 Two-port limit and higher reported input lag than the other listed models

Model features and input-lag figures in this table are reported by TechRadar’s gaming TV guide, updated August 7, 2026. Its figures are publisher measurements under its review conditions, not a common lab test performed for this article. The LG figure specifically is for Boost mode.

LG C6: prioritize features and multiple inputs

TechRadar names the LG C6 its best gaming TV overall, citing its picture quality, 165Hz panel, VRR and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Four capable inputs can make setup easier if you use several consoles and an audio device. The measured 9.2ms input lag is in Boost mode; the screen’s reflectivity is a practical concern if you play with windows or lights facing the TV.

TCL QM6K: a US budget option

TechRadar recommends the TCL QM6K as its US budget gaming pick. It combines a 144Hz panel with HDMI Forum, FreeSync and G-Sync VRR support, and has two HDMI 2.1 inputs. TechRadar reports 13.1ms input lag. Its Mini LED positioning and gaming features are balanced against limited brightness and average built-in sound. Verify the US SKU and screen size, since listings can differ.

TCL C6K: a UK budget option

TechRadar’s UK budget pick is the TCL C6K, with a reported 144Hz panel, VRR and 13.6ms input lag. The guide’s port information is inconsistent: its specification block lists four HDMI 2.1 ports, while its tradeoffs say two, and its narrative identifies two as supporting 4K 120Hz. Check the precise regional model’s manual and port specifications rather than assuming all listed HDMI sockets handle the same signals. TechRadar also notes limited brightness and viewing-angle or uniformity compromises.

Samsung QN90F: consider it for a bright room

The QN90F is TechRadar’s daytime-gaming candidate, with an anti-reflection screen, four HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR and ALLM. TechRadar measured 9.5ms input lag, 2,087 nits peak brightness and 667 nits full-screen brightness in its test context; these are not guaranteed output levels for every scene or setting. Its price is a consideration. The lack of Dolby Vision should not weigh heavily for PS5 gaming because PS5 does not support Dolby Vision gaming.

Sony BRAVIA 8 II: look at the PS5-specific features and port count

TechRadar highlights the BRAVIA 8 II’s “Perfect for PS5” features, including Auto HDR Tone Mapping that activates when a PS5 is connected, as well as its built-in sound. The guide reports a 120Hz refresh rate and 16.3ms input lag. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports, so consider how a soundbar using eARC and any other consoles will fit into your setup.

  • QD-Mini LED: This premium level of Mini LED TV, now with the New TCL Halo Control System, ensures a high-quality viewing experience.

How to choose among the five

  • Choose by room first: In a sunny room, the QN90F’s anti-reflection treatment is a useful point of distinction. If your room is controlled for light, compare the other models’ picture and feature tradeoffs rather than assuming brightness is always decisive.
  • Count devices and ports: If you have multiple consoles or an eARC soundbar, compare the number of ports that support the required 4K 120Hz and VRR signals. The LG C6 and Samsung QN90F are reported with four HDMI 2.1 ports; the BRAVIA 8 II has two. Confirm the exact port mapping on the model you buy.
  • Set a regional budget: The QM6K is the US budget pick in TechRadar’s guide and the C6K is its UK pick. They are not interchangeable model names; confirm your local SKU and do not rely on a price or specification from another market.
  • Compare lag in context: TechRadar says it uses a Leo Bodnar 4K HDMI Input Lag Tester and compares Standard and Game Mode in its TV testing methodology. The C6’s listed result is specifically measured in Boost mode, so do not read the figures as measurements made in an identical mode across all five TVs. See TechRadar’s explanation of its TV comparison approach.
  • Do not shop by refresh-rate headline alone: A 144Hz or 165Hz panel can offer headroom for other devices, but PS5 output at 120Hz still depends on the particular game and setup.

What Hi-Fi? lists a separate TCL C7K / QM7K with 4K, 144Hz, VRR, ALLM, Dolby Vision game mode and two full-bandwidth 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 inputs, and notes its anti-reflection treatment. These are different regional names and models from the QM6K and C6K above; do not assume their specifications transfer. See What Hi-Fi?’s gaming TV comparison for that model context.

Connect and configure a PS5 for 4K 120Hz

  1. Use a suitable connection. Connect the PS5 directly to a TV input that supports the target signal, using the HDMI cable included with the console or a suitable Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K 120Hz. An intermediary receiver or switch can prevent the signal from working as expected.
  2. Check TV requirements. Select the TV’s designated high-bandwidth HDMI input and enable any required enhanced-format or game settings. Update the TV firmware and consult its manual to confirm the port supports 4K 120Hz, VRR and ALLM as applicable.
  3. Inspect the PS5’s detected capabilities. On the console, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Sony says the PS5 detects connected TV capabilities and selects the best available resolution automatically; this screen also shows information about the connected HDMI device, resolution, VRR and HDR.
  4. Test 1440p if that is your intended output. Sony provides a 1440p output test for SDR and HDR at 60Hz and 120Hz, and VRR where the TV supports it.
  5. Verify in a compatible game. A TV and console setup supporting 120Hz does not force every game to use it; the game itself must offer a compatible mode.

Sony’s official instructions and compatibility guidance are at How to change PS5 console resolution.

Troubleshoot a missing 4K 120Hz signal

  • No picture or unexpected 1080p at 120Hz: Confirm the TV supports 4K 120Hz, the cable is appropriate, the PS5 is connected directly, and the cable is in the correct HDMI 2.1 input.
  • TV does not offer VRR or ALLM: Check the specific input’s capabilities and TV settings, install available firmware updates, and consult the display manual. The HDMI 2.1 label alone does not establish ALLM support.
  • Signal remains at a lower resolution: Recheck the console’s Video Output settings and the TV’s required input format settings. Sony recommends checking the console’s resolution and video transfer rate as part of troubleshooting.
  • Features vary by game: Confirm that the game supports 120Hz or VRR. Sony notes that results for VRR vary by television.
