Sunbeam describes the dual-wall filter as adding back pressure, with a baffle intended to steady the pour. Its booklet calls 92°C the intended extraction temperature and says this is “just below boiling point.” These describe the manufacturer’s design and guidance; they do not establish pressure at the coffee puck, temperature stability during brewing or the taste of the espresso. What using the machine involves
Making espresso requires several manual steps rather than pressing a capsule button. The booklet’s workflow is to fill the tank with cold water, switch on and warm the machine, choose a filter, dose and tamp ground coffee, clear grounds from the filter rim, lock the group handle into the brewing head and operate the selector to brew. The booklet also describes flushing water to warm the cup or filter if desired.

Milk preparation is separate: purge the steam wand before frothing, then clean it promptly after use. Sunbeam advises not to boil milk and says to stop when the jug becomes too hot to touch; it does not give a precise measured target temperature. The booklet includes cleaning and descaling instructions, so upkeep is part of ownership.
Is the Sunbeam Piccolo EM2800 any good?
The available public evidence is not enough for a performance verdict. CHOICE identifies test categories such as taste, ease of use, milk frothing, coffee-temperature consistency, heat-up time and time to froth 200 mL of milk, but its accessible listing keeps the Expert Rating and results member-only. Those scores and measurements therefore cannot support a claim that the EM2800 brews well, heats quickly or froths milk effectively. The CHOICE EM2800 listing also labels the model discontinued.

In practical terms, the documented design suits someone willing to prepare ground coffee, tamp it and manage steaming and cleanup separately. A buyer who wants capsule convenience should look elsewhere. The specifications alone do not show whether the machine’s results meet an individual drinker’s expectations.
Should you buy one now?
Because CHOICE lists the EM2800 as discontinued, availability, condition and support matter more than the historical listing price. CHOICE showed $139 and a one-year warranty on its page accessed 2026-10-07; that price is not a current quote, and warranty coverage depends on the actual seller, location and purchase terms. Current stock and spare-parts availability have not been established.
