Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo keep a Garmin watch quiet and dark while you sleep, use its sleep-specific controls rather than changing daytime settings. On supported watches, open Watch Settings > Focus Modes > Sleep and review the schedule, display, notifications, and sound options. Watches without Focus Modes use different sleep settings, so check the owner’s manual for “Customizing Sleep Mode” or display controls.
Set up Sleep Focus on watches that support Focus Modes
On a compatible watch, open Watch Settings > Focus Modes > Sleep. Review the schedule and configure the options available on your model:

- Schedule: Set the days and hours when Sleep Focus should apply. Garmin says the watch can still track sleep outside the scheduled hours.
- Watch Face: Choose the sleep-time face if your watch offers that option.
- Notifications & Alerts: Decide which alerts are allowed during Sleep Focus.
- Sound & Vibe: Adjust sound and vibration for the sleep period.
- Display & Brightness: Review how the screen behaves while Sleep Focus is active.
Menu names and available controls vary by model. Garmin lists compatible families and models on its Focus Modes support page; check that list and your watch’s manual if you do not see the menu.

If your watch does not have Focus Modes
Some Garmin watches have sleep-related controls without the newer Focus Modes interface. There is no single menu path that applies to every model. Consult your model’s manual for “Customizing Sleep Mode,” “During Sleep” notification controls, or sleep display settings. Garmin’s notification troubleshooting guidance covers controls on watches with and without Focus Modes.

Garmin’s list of Focus Modes-compatible devices can change, so verify your exact model on the current support page.
Stop the display from waking during sleep
On compatible AMOLED watches, the scheduled sleep window disables Always On Display and gesture. Check that the sleep schedule is active if the display still lights when you turn your wrist. The behavior depends on model support and the active sleep schedule; Garmin’s display troubleshooting page addresses wrist gestures during sleep.

Garmin says Always On Display shortens battery life between charges, but its support information does not quantify how much battery disabling it overnight saves. See Garmin’s Always On Display guidance for the feature’s behavior on AMOLED watches.

Check touchscreen behavior separately
Some touchscreen models have sleep touch controls separate from their normal settings. Garmin describes an Auto option that lets a tap wake the backlight; buttons are then needed to leave the watch face. If taps behave differently at night than during the day, review your model’s touchscreen settings using Garmin’s touchscreen tips.

- Plan your race day strategy with the PacePro feature (not compatible with on-device courses), which offers GPS-based pace guidance for a selected course or distance

Choose which notifications reach the watch
Start with Notifications & Alerts inside Sleep Focus, because Focus Mode behavior can override general Smart Notification settings. On a watch without Focus Modes, look for a sleep-specific “During Sleep” notification setting rather than assuming that changing the general notification setting will produce the same result.
For selected-app controls, Garmin documents on-watch notification settings for supported devices. Phone-side setup also differs: Android users may manage app notifications in Garmin Connect, while iPhone delivery depends on iOS notification settings. Connected-app blocking is available only on compatible watch models, and not every app or phone can be configured identically. See Garmin’s notification setup instructions.

When the watch still lights up or alerts you
- The display wakes on a wrist turn: Confirm Sleep Focus is scheduled for the current day and time, then check whether your model supports disabling gesture during sleep.
- Notifications still appear: Review the Sleep Focus notification setting first. If you changed only the general Smart Notification setting, check whether Focus Mode is overriding it.
- You cannot find a setting: Your watch may not support Focus Modes or may use different labels. Look up the exact model in Garmin’s support pages and owner’s manual.
- Only one app is the problem: Check on-watch app controls where supported, then review Garmin Connect on Android or the iPhone’s notification settings, as applicable.
