5 Price Comparison Sites European Shoppers Can Check

For European shoppers, idealo is a useful broad starting point in the countries it serves; Geizhals is worth trying when you need detailed product filters. But no comparison site is comprehensive across Europe, and none of these five has been established as an objectively best service. Check at least two sites, match the exact product and seller, and confirm the delivered total at the retailer before buying.

Which price comparison sites are worth checking?

This is a practical shortlist, not a ranked test. The services below differ in country coverage, store listings, categories, and tools. The European Consumer Centre advises shoppers to use several comparison sites because a comparator may omit vendors or show a price that is no longer current.

Service What it may be useful for Coverage and caveat
idealo A broad starting point, with product and delivery comparisons, retailer reviews, price history, and alerts described by its UK service. idealo internet GmbH listed six country markets in Q2 2026: the UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and France. This is company-published availability, not a measure of completeness or quality; it is not an EU-wide guarantee.
Geizhals Trying detailed, category-specific product filtering and offer listings. Its EU site presents itself as an independent product and price comparison portal. Comprehensive country coverage is not established; check for your market and preferred retailers.
Kelkoo Cross-checking a broad catalog. Its UK service describes product comparisons, price-drop tracking, and alerts across areas including technology, home, fashion, and health. The described tools and categories are for the UK service; do not assume that every national Kelkoo site has the same features.
PriceInfo Searching across the markets it lists and selecting a local-market context. PriceInfo lists eight supported markets, including an EU-wide market: Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, and the EU-wide option. Its market page says the selection affects local stores, prices, and delivery context. The EU-wide label does not establish coverage of every EU country or retailer.
PriceRunner A possible market-specific alternative to check. A company letter to the European Commission identifies PriceRunner as a comparison-shopping service, but current availability, functions, and retailer coverage were not verified here. Confirm it serves your country and needs before relying on it.

The market counts above come from the services themselves and describe stated availability, not independent assessments. These candidates were not hands-on tested, and there is no neutral cross-site score or verified savings figure that would support declaring an overall winner.

How should you compare offers fairly?

Start with the product and seller, then compare the full cost and the terms. A low headline price can refer to a different variant, condition, or retailer than the offer you intend to buy.

  1. Match the exact item. Check model number, size, colour, storage, included accessories, and condition. Do not treat similar product names as proof that two listings are equivalent.
  2. Check the seller. Look at the retailer or marketplace seller, its reputation, and whether it is a professional trader or a private individual. EU consumer protections differ depending on the seller type.
  3. Calculate the delivered total. Include shipping, taxes, and any other fees, and check that the retailer will deliver to your address. EU guidance says advertised prices must include taxes and delivery charges; where a cost cannot be calculated in advance, it must be explained upfront. Confirm the actual checkout total.
  4. Read the purchase terms. Compare returns, warranty, and after-sales support as well as price. The comparison service helps you find offers; the retailer sells the product and sets the transaction terms.
  5. Cross-check elsewhere. Search a second comparator and, where useful, the retailer directly. Listings may be incomplete or out of date, so confirm that the offer is still available at the stated price.

Are price comparison sites reliable?

They can help discover and compare offers, but a result is not a guarantee that every seller is listed or that the displayed price remains available. The European Consumer Centre advises checking multiple comparators, confirming the final price with the seller, and considering product quality, guarantees, customer service, how offers are ranked, and whether financial relationships are disclosed. Treat the comparator as a starting point; the retailer’s checkout and terms determine the purchase.

Does a cheaper price in another European country mean a cheaper purchase?

Not necessarily. Delivery charges and the seller’s delivery options can change the total, and stock or terms may differ by market. The European Commission’s Your Europe guidance says: “As an EU national or resident you can’t be charged a higher price when buying products or services in the EU just because of your nationality or country of residence.” That protection against nationality- or residence-based discrimination does not mean prices, stock, or delivery costs must be identical across countries. Check whether the trader ships to your destination and what it charges.

When is each service a sensible first check?

  • Try idealo if it operates in your market and you want a general comparison with the UK features described above.
  • Try Geizhals if its listings cover your country and you want category-specific filtering.
  • Cross-check with Kelkoo if its national site serves you; the documented alerts and category range here refer to the UK service.
  • Try PriceInfo if its listed market options fit your search, then verify delivery and price with the store.
  • Check PriceRunner only after confirming its current availability and retailer coverage in your country.

For an important purchase, compare the same model and condition on at least two services, then verify the seller, delivered total, and terms directly before placing the order.
