Fatal Attacks are the exception: they cannot be blocked, so dodge away or use Blink just before impact. Once the enemy is staggered, hold Triangle to trigger Retribution.
Why you keep getting staggered
Bosses punish defensive choices that do not fit the attack. A block attempt will not stop a Fatal Attack, and dodging every move can give up the chance to counter. PlayStation’s combat guide recommends studying enemy patterns and adapting: “No set style of attack works with every enemy.”

Choose the right response to each attack
| What you see | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| An attack that can be blocked | Time a Perfect Block. | Perfect Blocks nullify incoming damage and repeated deflections knock the enemy off balance, building toward a stagger. |
| A Fatal Attack | Dodge away or attempt Blink just before it lands. | Fatal Attacks cannot be blocked. Blink is triggered by leaning the left stick toward the enemy and pressing Circle just before impact. |
| An attack with a timing or pattern you have not learned | Watch the animation first; then choose a block, parry, or dodge that fits. | Learning the pattern helps avoid committing to the wrong defense. |
Build stagger, then use Retribution
- Watch the boss. Learn the attack animation and whether it is blockable before committing to a response.
- Practice Perfect Blocks on blockable attacks. Repeated successful deflections can knock the enemy off balance and lead to a stagger.
- Use Retribution when the stagger occurs. Hold Triangle to activate it.
Stay close enough to punish openings
PlayStation advises staying on the enemy and dodging around rather than retreating by default. Staying near can leave Eve close enough to punish an opening, but it is not a guarantee of safety against every move. After avoiding an attack, take the opening without extending a combo so long that the boss can retaliate.
Use Beta Skills as options, not a fixed combo
Beta Skills consume Beta energy and have different effects. PlayStation gives an unblockable thrust and a wide slash as examples. Use them selectively alongside regular combos and defensive play; the guide does not prescribe one Beta Skill rotation that works against every boss.

Practice in Boss Challenge
PlayStation announced Boss Challenge mode and said bosses can be fought on Hard after the ending. The announcement also describes presets that change skill and stat levels. See the Boss Challenge mode announcement for those details.

These are general combat tips, not a walkthrough for a named boss or phase. The official guidance covers how to read attacks and choose a defense, but does not identify which move is causing trouble in a particular encounter. Apply the block-versus-dodge decision to the attack you are seeing rather than assuming one defense works for every pattern.
