To retrieve global achievement percentages for a Steam game, call Valve’s ISteamUserStats/GetGlobalAchievementPercentagesForApp method with the game’s gameid. Valve lists it as version 2 and does not list an API key among its required parameters. The result can support descriptive comparisons, but Valve’s documentation does not define how the percentage is calculated or guarantee that it represents every owner or player.
What the endpoint returns
Valve’s ISteamUserStats reference describes GetGlobalAchievementPercentagesForApp as retrieving global achievement percentages for a specified app. The current listed method version is 2, and its required parameter is gameid, a 64-bit unsigned integer (uint64).

That makes the call a compact source for examining achievement percentages associated with a game. Calling it an analytics feed is a useful description of one possible application, not Valve’s stated product purpose: the documentation describes the method’s output but does not characterize it as an analytics service.

- Choose the Steam app whose achievement percentages you want and obtain its app ID, passed to this method under the parameter name
gameid. - Send an HTTPS request to the public Steam Web API host,
api.steampowered.com, using theISteamUserStats/GetGlobalAchievementPercentagesForAppmethod and version 2. Valve’s Web API Overview recommends HTTPS when possible. - Read the returned global achievement percentages as descriptive values for that app. If you collect results repeatedly, save the retrieval date and app ID alongside each response so your own dataset can be compared over time.
The official method reference is the place to confirm the current request format and response details; Valve notes that older API versions may remain usable but are no longer officially supported, and recommends using the latest version.

Does it require an API key?
The method’s parameter list documents gameid as required and does not list a key. That is different from a blanket claim that Steam’s API is key-free: Valve documents both public and protected methods, and requirements vary by call. The public API host is api.steampowered.com; Valve also offers partner.steam-api.com for publishers, where every request requires a valid publisher key, including requests that would ordinarily not need one.
Valve describes public methods as accessible to applications capable of making HTTP requests. As its Web API Overview puts it, “The API contains public methods that can be accessed from any application capable of making an HTTP request, such as game client or server.” This does not make protected methods public. Publisher keys can access sensitive user data and protected methods, and Valve says they belong on secure publisher servers—not inside a game client or other publicly distributed software. Global percentages are not individual player records
GetGlobalAchievementPercentagesForApp returns global percentages; it does not identify which achievements a particular person has unlocked. Valve documents a separate method, GetPlayerAchievements, for that task. It requires a user Web API authentication key, a steamid (uint64), and an appid (uint32); language is optional.

Other neighboring methods serve different purposes. GetSchemaForGame returns the game’s list of stats and achievements and documents a key and appid as required. GetGlobalStatsForGame retrieves global stats for an app and requires publisher authentication parameters. These are not substitutes for the global achievement-percentage call; check each method’s own requirements in the ISteamUserStats reference.

What the percentages can—and cannot—tell you
The endpoint can help describe how achievement percentages differ within a game or across games. But Valve’s reviewed documentation does not specify the denominator, sampling or adjustment method, refresh interval, latency, retention, or a method-specific completeness guarantee. Treat the figures as Steam’s global achievement percentages, not a census of all owners or players.
- Do not turn a percentage into an exact count of game owners or players; the documentation does not establish the denominator needed for that calculation.
- Do not infer why players unlocked or missed an achievement, or claim that a game feature caused a difference, from the percentages alone.
- Use care when comparing games: Valve’s documentation does not establish that their player populations or acquisition cohorts are comparable.
- Do not assume the endpoint provides historical data. For a time-based analysis, collect and date responses yourself; the method reference does not promise a historical time series.
These limits do not prevent descriptive analysis; they define what a responsible interpretation can claim. For reproducibility, retain the app ID, collection time, and response data, and label conclusions as comparisons of the returned percentages rather than measurements of all Steam players.
