To keep a State of Decay 2 community stable, check what survivors need before spending resources: review stockpiles, morale, health, fatigue, and daily consumption, then address the most urgent shortfall. There is no single best base layout for every group. Your survivors’ skills, current supplies, and chosen difficulty should shape what you build and which missions you take.
Start each session by checking the community
At base, look over your stockpiles, morale, survivor condition, and daily consumption before committing to a build or supply run. Pay attention to social problems as well as material shortages: a facility may help with one need, while a mission or a change in who you take out may be more useful for another.

The Xbox game help/manual puts the relationship plainly: “Keep an eye on your stockpiles as the strength of your supplies directly impacts your community’s morale.” Low morale can bring negative consequences, so avoid treating supplies as numbers you can ignore until they run out. Keep an eye on what the community consumes and decide which shortage needs attention first.

Choose facilities to solve the next problem
Facilities serve different purposes, and construction, upgrades, and repairs can use resources or Influence. Compare a facility’s immediate benefit with its cost, your available survivor skills, and the community’s current needs. Don’t build something just because it appears in a guide or worked for another player.

- Workshop: A facility guide describes it as a place to craft explosives and repair weapons.
- Infirmary: The guide describes it as treating Blood Plague and crafting a cure. If health is the concern, check the current in-game description and available treatment options before spending.
- Food production: A food facility can help address a food shortfall.
- Morale facility: Some facilities are intended to improve morale, which may be useful when supplies or interpersonal trouble are weighing on the group.
These are examples, not a universal build order. The facility guide supplying these details was last updated in 2018, so use the current in-game facility description as the authority if its functions, costs, or outputs differ.
Use survivors for what they can do—and let them recover
Survivors are not interchangeable. Their skills, traits, personalities, and burdens can affect what they contribute and what the community needs. Skills can improve through use and may be specialized, so consider a survivor’s strengths when assigning activities rather than sending the same person everywhere.

Check condition before leaving base. Rotate tired survivors back home to rest, and take someone fit enough for the job. A useful choice balances the skill a survivor brings against their current condition and the risk of the outing.

Missions can offer supplies, help neighbors, or present other opportunities; some are time-sensitive. The Xbox game help/manual advises: “Decide which missions to take based on your community’s needs.” Use that as a filter, not as a command to accept every request. Ask what the mission could solve, whether your group is ready, and what you would risk by leaving base.

Activities can earn Influence, which the manual says gives access to supplies and favors. If the community is short on something important, consider whether an outing can address that need before spending Influence on a facility or other option.
Keep supply runs practical and nearby threats in view
Vehicles can make supply runs more useful, but they are limited and noisy. Keep fuel and repair kits available when you can, and avoid treating a vehicle as guaranteed protection or an unlimited resource. A beginner guide also recommends clearing nearby infestations, noting that doing so reduces base threat and can improve morale. Those actions may help, but they do not guarantee that the base or a survivor will be safe.

Repeat a simple decision loop
- At base, inspect needs: Check stockpiles, morale, survivor health and fatigue, daily consumption, and any visible social trouble.
- Pick the priority: Identify the most pressing shortage or risk before spending resources or Influence.
- Choose a ready survivor: Use a capable survivor in suitable condition; leave tired survivors at home to rest.
- Take a fitting mission or supply run: Weigh its likely benefit against the danger, time pressure, vehicle condition, and what the community gives up while you are away.
- Build or upgrade only when it addresses the priority: Read the current facility description and weigh its cost against the benefit.
- Reassess after returning: Update your priorities as supplies, morale, survivor condition, and community membership change.
Adapt to your group and difficulty
Base options and survivor rosters vary, and the game lets players customize difficulty, scarcity, and danger. A choice that suits one community may be a poor fit for another. Judge facilities and missions by the need they address, their resource or Influence cost, the skills and labor your roster can provide, and the supply pressure you are currently facing.
