Not yet on the evidence available. Starlink has received a government authorization to provide satellite communications in India, and Jio announced an agreement to distribute Starlink equipment and support customers. Neither fact establishes a live consumer service, a final India price or availability at a particular address. For households with usable fiber or fixed wireless, compare current local plans and setup costs. For remote places without a practical terrestrial connection, satellite internet could be valuable even if it costs more.
What the Starlink–Jio arrangement means for customers
On 12 March 2025, Jio Platforms announced an agreement with SpaceX to offer Starlink broadband to Jio customers, subject at the time to SpaceX receiving the required authorizations. Jio said equipment would be offered through retail and online channels, with customer service, installation and activation support. It described Starlink as a complement to JioFiber and JioAirFiber in the hardest-to-reach locations—not as a replacement for mass-market fixed broadband. A later regulatory milestone is real, but narrower than a launch announcement. In a parliamentary reply on 29 January 2026, the Ministry of Communications said the Department of Telecommunications had issued GMPCS Unified License authorizations to OneWeb India, Jio Satellite Communication and Starlink Satellite Communications. A license authorizes activity under the applicable framework; it does not by itself show that a consumer plan is on sale or that service is available nationwide.

That is evidence of industry interest, not a measure of retail competition or a guarantee that each applicant will launch service.

What “affordable” needs to include
A monthly bill is only part of the comparison. Satellite customers may also face a substantial one-time cost for the terminal and installation. Before comparing offers, check whether service can be ordered at the address, the full equipment and setup charge, taxes, data terms, actual performance and support arrangements. For terrestrial broadband, check the same address-specific details, including any router, installation, deposit or promotional conditions.

Jio’s current JioFiber postpaid comparison page is a place to check live terms, but its plan rows were not available in the captured page information. No current Jio tariff should be inferred from older comparisons.

What the historical price comparison can—and cannot—tell you
An EY India report published in June 2023 estimated an expected Starlink corporate price of INR 7,425 per month plus INR 37,400 upfront. It also listed selected conventional broadband comparisons at monthly prices from INR 799 to INR 1,201, with INR 1,000 upfront. EY cautioned that actual pricing could differ. These are historical estimates and selected comparisons, not current consumer offers, and they do not establish what Starlink or Jio charges in India today.

Which option makes sense for your location?
If fiber or fixed wireless is available
Compare the current total cost of a terrestrial plan with any confirmed Starlink offer: monthly charge plus equipment, installation, taxes and any required deposit. Compare the service terms and performance you need, rather than assuming satellite is faster, more reliable or better value. Without a confirmed Starlink price and local availability, there is no sound basis for saying it beats Jio on cost.

If your home is hard to connect
The relevant question may be whether satellite can provide usable broadband at all, rather than whether its monthly fee matches a low-cost fiber plan. Jio’s stated positioning is complementary service for challenging locations. For a remote household or business, assess the complete installed cost against the alternatives that actually reach the site.

The cited government and company announcements establish regulatory authorization and a proposed distribution and support relationship. They do not establish a live Starlink India consumer checkout, final monthly or terminal pricing, a launch date, plan features or region-by-region serviceability. Treat unofficial or leaked price claims as unconfirmed until an official India offer provides the price and terms.
