Samsung’s reported AI-storage concept is zNAND-O; the available coverage does not verify the related labels Z-NAND-T or Z-NAND-I. zNAND-O has been described as a V-NAND-based concept in development for edge AI—not as a product available to buy or a technology with proven deployment results.
What Samsung has reported about zNAND-O
Coverage of Samsung’s Future of Memory and Storage 2026 presentation describes zNAND-O as a next-generation, high-performance NAND concept built on V-NAND. The reported development roadmap includes four- and eight-layer versions. The presentation coverage associates the concept with space efficiency, improved input/output performance and low latency, for edge AI workloads that process data in real time.

Those points describe design goals and intended use, not independently measured performance. The coverage does not establish that zNAND-O is shipping, available to system builders, or deployed in an AI system.

The reviewed material does not substantiate the exact names Z-NAND-T or Z-NAND-I. Searches of Samsung’s official news domain for those labels and zNAND-O returned no results. That absence does not prove the names have never been used; it means their meaning and status could not be verified from the sources checked. It would be premature to describe all three as confirmed technologies Samsung is developing.

What zNAND-O’s edge-AI positioning means
Edge AI runs AI processing near where data is generated, rather than relying entirely on a remote data center. That can make storage latency and I/O relevant when a system needs to process data quickly. Samsung’s reported positioning suggests zNAND-O is intended for those demanding edge workloads, but the available information does not provide measured latency, throughput, capacity, power consumption or thermal results.
Without those results, zNAND-O cannot yet be compared meaningfully with commercially available storage or memory products. A useful future evaluation would need to establish whether it is a concept, sample or mass-production product; what capacity and density it offers; and how its I/O, latency, power and thermal behavior perform in the intended deployment.

How zNAND-O differs from Samsung’s other reported NAND activity
V10 BV-NAND is a separate architecture
Coverage of the 2026 presentation also reports Samsung figures for V10 BV-NAND: more than 400 layers and approximately 58% greater memory density than the prior V9 generation. Those figures refer to V10 BV-NAND, not zNAND-O, and should not be used as zNAND-O specifications.

Samsung’s 2025 annual report discusses AI-driven demand for server memory and says the company planned to address demand for high-capacity server SSDs with V9 high-performance products. It does not identify those products as zNAND-O. The report also names the 9100 PRO 8TB as a PCIe 5.0 consumer SSD; that product is not evidence of a retail zNAND-O implementation.

Is zNAND-O available for AI systems?
No verified retail zNAND-O product or directly compatible accessory is established in the available sources. For now, it is best understood as a concept and development roadmap associated with edge AI. Anyone assessing storage for an AI system should rely on specifications and deployment evidence for the actual product being considered, rather than treating the zNAND-O name or its stated design goals as proof of availability or performance.
