For most fixed homes, Starlink’s Standard 4 X is the home-oriented option; Mini is designed for portable use; and Performance (Gen 3) is aimed at demanding environments, including high-vibration and in-motion deployments. Starlink also identifies several older or specialist kits in its support catalog, but that does not mean they are currently for sale. First choose hardware for where and how you will use it, then confirm the service plan and availability for your address.
Which Starlink dish fits your use?
| Kit | Best-supported use | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Standard 4 X | Fixed home internet | Starlink describes it for residential use, streaming, video calls, and online gaming. Its listed kit includes a kickstand, Router 3, 15 m Starlink cable, AC cable, and power supply. Starlink specifications. |
| Standard 4 | Standard setup paired with Router Mini | Starlink says “Standard with the Router Mini” is now called Standard 4. The company says it is the same hardware many customers previously called Gen 3. Check the exact product listing for kit contents. Starlink’s naming clarification. |
| Starlink Mini | Portable internet and basic online applications | Compact, with Wi-Fi integrated into the unit. Its listed contents include a kickstand, Mini Pipe Adapter and Flat Mount, DC cable, power supply, and Starlink plug. It needs an adequate power source; see the power section below. Starlink specifications. |
| Performance (Gen 3) | Remote, harsh, high-vibration, or in-motion deployments | Starlink lists a capability of up to 400+ Mbps, along with IP68 unplugged/IP69K plugged ratings, broad operating-temperature tolerance, and high wind survivability. These are manufacturer specifications, not guaranteed results at a particular location. Starlink Performance specifications. |
| Performance Gen 1 and Gen 2 | Existing specialist installations | Starlink continues to identify these generations in support material. Gen 1 was formerly called High Performance and is described for power-user, business, and enterprise uses. A support listing does not establish that either generation is available new. | Standard Actuated, Standard Circular, and Enterprise | Existing installations or specific business deployments | Starlink’s support catalog identifies these kits and distinguishes their form factors. What the names mean—and what “available” means
Starlink’s support page, “What Starlink Kit do I have?”, lists Standard 4 X, Standard 4, Starlink Mini, Performance (Gen 3), Standard Actuated, Enterprise, Performance (Gen 1), Performance (Gen 2), and Standard Circular. It identifies Standard 4 X, Standard 4, Mini, Performance Gen 3, and Enterprise as rectangular terminals without a built-in motor for self-orientation. Standard Actuated and Standard Circular are motorized; Performance Gen 1 is a large square motorized terminal, while Performance Gen 2 is a large square terminal without a motor. That list identifies hardware, not a live inventory of products for sale. For a purchase decision, compare the current kit offered for your address with the older kit you may already own. In particular, Standard 4 X, Standard 4, and Standard Actuated are distinct names; do not assume their bundles or accessory compatibility are interchangeable.

For a fixed household connection: Standard 4 X
Standard 4 X is the clearest fit when the dish will serve a home at one registered address. Starlink describes it for everyday residential activities such as streaming, video calls, and gaming. Its standard bundle lists Router 3 and a 15 m Starlink cable, along with the kickstand and power components. Confirm the actual local listing before buying, since kit contents and availability can change.

For portable use: Starlink Mini
Mini is the compact option when portability matters. Its integrated Wi-Fi and included accessories suit a smaller setup, but portability does not by itself grant permission to use a Residential plan away from its registered address. Also account for the power requirements before relying on Mini away from a mains outlet.
For demanding deployments: Performance (Gen 3)
Performance Gen 3 is positioned for remote, harsh, high-vibration, and in-motion use. Starlink states “up to 400+ Mbps” capability and publishes environmental protection and wind-survivability specifications. Treat these as manufacturer claims about the terminal, not as a promise of a particular service speed or uninterrupted connection; actual availability and performance depend on location and service conditions.

For an existing dish or a specialist installation
If you already have a Standard Actuated, Standard Circular, Enterprise, or earlier Performance kit, identify its exact model before replacing parts. Starlink’s identification page distinguishes the hardware types, but its presence in support documentation alone does not show that the product can still be purchased new.

Starlink says Mini averages 20–40 W and uses 15 W while idle; consumption can vary with temperature, location, and utilization. For optimal operation, Starlink recommends a 100 W (20 V/5 A) USB-C Power Delivery source. It says the Mini will not work with USB PD ratings below 65 W (12–48 V). Check the output rating and USB-C PD support of a power bank or adapter rather than relying on its advertised total capacity. Starlink Mini power guidance.

Starlink’s comparison page gives Wi-Fi coverage of up to 112 m² (1,200 ft²) for Mini and up to 297 m² (3,200 ft²) for Standard 4 X. These are Starlink’s coverage claims, not universal guarantees: placement and the surrounding environment can affect coverage. Starlink Mini and Standard 4 X comparison.
Pick the service plan separately from the dish
Hardware determines the terminal you install; the plan determines where you are permitted to use the service. Starlink says Residential is for personal or household use at the fixed land-based address registered to the account and does not support roaming. A Roam plan is required to use service at another address or while traveling. Plan availability and performance vary by region and address, so check the live offer for the location where you intend to connect. Starlink service plans.

Check compatibility before buying accessories
Accessories are model-specific enough that a dish’s general shape is not a reliable compatibility check. Before ordering, confirm the kit name and generation, then verify the accessory against that exact model.
- Mount: Check that the mount is listed for your dish and installation surface.
- Cable: Confirm the cable type and length supported by the kit.
- Power: For Mini, verify the required USB-C PD output if using a third-party source.
- Router: Check which router is included in the specific Standard kit rather than inferring it from the word “Standard.”
Starlink’s current naming and kit contents can change. Compare the product listing and support information for your exact address and model before committing to a purchase or replacement part.
