In Stardew Valley, the “truffle machine” players usually mean is the Oil Maker. Reach Farming Level 8 to learn its recipe, craft it with 50 slime, 20 hardwood and 1 gold bar, then load one truffle to produce one truffle oil after 6 in-game hours. Whether processing is more profitable depends on the truffle’s quality and your profession: an iridium-quality truffle can be worth more sold as-is if you do not have Artisan.
How to unlock and craft the Oil Maker
The Oil Maker is artisan equipment in Stardew Valley. Its recipe becomes available at Farming Level 8. The Stardew Valley Wiki lists the crafting requirements as 50 slime, 20 hardwood and 1 gold bar. See the Oil Maker recipe and details.

Should you process a truffle or sell it?
The Stardew Valley Wiki lists truffle oil at a base sale price of 1,065g and a sale price of 1,491g with the Artisan profession. These are in-game values. A higher listed oil price does not mean processing is always the better choice: without Artisan, an iridium-quality truffle is worth more sold directly than turned into oil, according to the Wiki’s quality caveat.
Use these factors when deciding:
- Truffle quality: The documented exception is an iridium-quality truffle when you lack Artisan; selling it outright pays more than processing.
- Profession: Artisan raises the listed truffle oil sale value to 1,491g.
- Time: The Oil Maker occupies 6 in-game hours per truffle.
- What you need the item for: Truffle oil and raw truffles have different bundle, crafting, quest and tailoring uses.
The available information establishes that one case where direct sale wins; it does not establish a complete profit comparison for every truffle quality and profession combination. For the underlying values and caveat, see the Truffle Oil page and Truffle page.
Other uses for truffle oil and truffles
Truffle oil
Beyond selling it, truffle oil can be used for the Artisan Bundle, crafting a Rain Totem, tailoring and dyeing, and Mayor Lewis’s “Mayor’s Need” quest. Check your current game version and quest state before relying on quest-specific details; the item’s uses and update history are listed on the Truffle Oil page.
Truffles
Raw truffles have their own bundle and tailoring uses. They may also be requested on the Help Wanted board if you own a pig. If you need the raw item for one of these purposes, consider setting it aside instead of putting it into the Oil Maker. See the Truffle page.

Quick decision guide
- Need truffle oil for a bundle, recipe, quest or tailoring? Process one truffle, unless you need that same raw truffle for another purpose.
- Have an iridium-quality truffle and no Artisan profession? The Wiki says selling it directly is worth more than processing it.
- Otherwise, compare the in-game sale values for your situation and account for the 6-hour processing time rather than assuming oil always pays more.
For corroborating recipe and product information, the Stardew Valley Wiki also lists the Oil Maker under Artisan Goods.
