There is no evidence-backed upgrade order that is best for every racer in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Start with the craft and handling style you prefer, then spend upgrades on the weakness you notice and the hazards in your next event. The game’s documented upgrade axes are cornering, speed, and resilience; parts can add stat boosts and abilities.
What should you upgrade first?
Use this order as a decision process, not a fixed build recipe:

- Pick your craft and driving style. Different craft handle differently, so first decide what kind of vehicle you want to race and how you want it to feel.
- Address the weakness you actually notice. Choose cornering if turns are costing you time, speed if you need more pace, or resilience if surviving hazards and contact is the priority. The available descriptions identify these as broad upgrade-tree axes, not a universal ranking.
- Check the next event’s environment. Planetary conditions can affect vehicles. A part or upgrade that suits one track may be less useful on another.
- Compare parts by both their stat boost and ability. Consider whether an ability complements your driving style and the rest of your build, rather than treating any one combination as proven best.
- Factor in the state of your run. Parts can be damaged, and some event choices carry a risk of ending a tour. Weigh the possible reward against what you stand to lose.
How craft and handling change the choice
Do not assume that an upgrade plan transfers unchanged between vehicle classes. For example, speeder bikes are described as fast but call for heavy braking into corners. If corner entry is where you struggle on a bike, improving cornering may be a more useful first move than adding speed; if you already manage turns reliably, speed may better suit your goal. These are conditional choices, not measured performance rankings.

- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
Adapt parts to the next environment
Track conditions can change what matters. Creative director Kieran Crimmins described freezing conditions on Ando Prime, overheating near lava on Lantaana—with water available to cool down—and sun exposure on some versions of Jakku. The practical takeaway is to check the upcoming environment and consider how your current setup will cope. The published descriptions do not establish a specific counter-part for each hazard, so inspect the available in-game options rather than relying on an assumed match.
Choose parts and abilities as a build
Hibi’s workshop lets you fit parts earned during runs or bought from her. Parts provide stat boosts and abilities, so evaluate the effect as a whole: does the stat help with your current weakness, and does the ability support the way you race? Some perks and unlocks carry over to a later attempt, but that does not make every part or upgrade equally valuable for every run.

Installed parts can be damaged. TechRadar’s launch reviewer also reported a rival interaction that sabotaged a speeder and cost upgrades. Treat that as a reported review scenario, not a guaranteed result in every race, but account for part condition and possible setbacks when deciding how much to risk on a promising run.

Is an Eliminator worth taking for upgrades?
GamesRadar+ reports that Eliminator races can award Credits, two Upgrade points, and a high-quality part. The same review says failing to place in the top three can cost the League Token and end the tour. That makes an Eliminator a high-risk, high-reward option—not an automatic upgrade priority.

A quick way to compare upgrade options
When choosing between upgrades or parts, compare them against the next race rather than trying to identify a single best item:
- Which broad benefit does it provide: cornering, speed, or resilience?
- Does it fit your craft and preferred handling style?
- Will it help with the upcoming environment or hazards?
- Does its ability work well with your other choices?
- Is the part in good condition, and what could you lose if the event goes badly?
- If the event offers a valuable reward, is that reward worth the chance of ending the tour?
Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster has described the campaign as runs-based, with consequential choices about starting vehicle, upgrades, and event path. That design is why a flexible, event-aware build is a better goal than copying a fixed “best build.” Published descriptions do not provide controlled upgrade comparisons or numerical rankings that establish a single winner.
