Neither Staples Print nor FedEx Office is better for every custom gift. Staples’ catalog is a strong fit for small photo items such as mugs, coasters, ornaments and mouse pads, as well as wall art. FedEx Office lists gifts including photo calendars, blankets and towels, alongside cards and wall art, but says it no longer offers everyday photo printing. Choose by the exact item you want, then check its customization options and the pickup or shipping estimate for your local store.
Which custom gifts does each provider offer?
The catalogs overlap on some photo-based products, but each has options the other’s cited category list does not explicitly show. Check the product page for available sizes, designs and personalization before deciding.

FedEx Office and everyday photo printing
FedEx Office states, “FedEx Office no longer offers everyday photo printing services.” Its category page says customers can still order photo-based products such as calendars, posters, canvas prints, blankets and towels. That distinction matters if you want standard photo prints rather than a finished gift or wall-art product. FedEx Office photo gifts
How do pickup and delivery compare?

What should you compare for canvas prints?
The providers describe different materials and hanging details. These are product specifications, not independent measurements of print quality.
| Detail | Staples | FedEx Office |
|---|---|---|
| Canvas and frame | Semi-gloss canvas, gallery-wrapped. Staples photo gifts | Matte material stretched over a 1.5-inch wooden frame. FedEx Office photo gifts |
| Hanging or back | Closed back with pop-out hanging holes. Staples photo gifts | Sawtooth hanger. FedEx Office photo gifts |
| Image setup | Not stated in the cited Staples product details. | Customers can upload images or use templates; the page recommends a high-quality image of at least 150 DPI. FedEx Office photo gifts |
The cited pages do not provide a comparable print-quality test, measured color accuracy or customer-satisfaction study. The construction differences may help you choose based on finish and hanging preference, but they do not establish that one provider prints better.
How to choose for your order
- Start with the gift itself. If you want a mug, coaster, ornament or mouse pad, Staples explicitly lists those items. If you want a blanket or towel, FedEx Office lists those categories. For an overlapping item such as a calendar, poster or canvas, compare the available designs and specifications.
- Confirm personalization and materials. Check the product page for upload options, templates, sizes and finish. For canvas, compare the stated surface and hanging construction against what suits the recipient’s space.
- Check fulfillment for your exact configuration. Select the product, size and quantity, then review pickup availability for the intended store or the shipping estimate at checkout. Do not infer a provider-wide speed advantage from a different product’s timing guidance.
- Compare the current total. Prices and promotions can change. Compare the checkout amount, including shipping and any applicable current offer, rather than relying on a catalog starting price.
Is Staples or FedEx Office better for custom gifts?
Staples is the more direct match when you want a small photo gift such as a mug, coaster, ornament or mouse pad. FedEx Office is worth checking for listed gifts such as blankets and towels, and it offers cards, calendars and wall art. For overlapping products, neither provider is established as the quality or speed winner: choose using the exact product details and the current fulfillment and total-price estimate for your order.
