Play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order first if you want Cal Kestis’s story in order. Jedi: Survivor takes place five years later and continues that story. But EA says Survivor can stand alone, so you can start there if you want its evolved combat and traversal without playing the earlier game first.
Which game should you play first?
| Choose | If you want | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Fallen Order | Cal’s story from the beginning | It introduces Cal as a Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. Survivor follows five years later. EA’s Fallen Order page and EA’s Survivor page establish the chronology. |
| Survivor | The later chapter, with updated combat and traversal | EA says it can be played as a standalone story; prior progress does not transfer. EA’s FAQ addresses the standalone question. |
Playing in story order is the clearest choice if continuity matters. Starting with Survivor is reasonable if you are more interested in the newer chapter’s mechanics or simply want to jump in.

Do you need to play Fallen Order first?
No. EA says each game can stand alone, so Fallen Order is helpful context, not a prerequisite for understanding Survivor. The sequel is set five years after the first game, and it continues Cal and BD-1’s story. If you later go back to Fallen Order, your save or progress will not carry into Survivor, according to EA’s FAQ.
What changes in Survivor?
EA describes Survivor as a direct response to community feedback, with more expansive destinations to explore, evolved combat and traversal, and a continuation of Cal and BD-1’s story. That describes the sequel’s direction, not a guarantee that every part of it is larger or better than Fallen Order. EA also says that some planets offer more expansive exploration, while clarifying that Survivor is not an open-world game. It remains a single-player action-adventure. See the game announcement and FAQ.

If difficulty is the deciding factor, check the available settings for the game and platform you are considering; the supplied publisher information establishes Survivor’s options, not a direct difficulty comparison with Fallen Order.

EA’s Fallen Order page lists PC, PlayStation, and Xbox availability. EA also announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades for existing PS4 and Xbox One owners at the time; its announcement cited higher-resolution assets, 4K/HDR, improved 60 FPS performance, and faster loading. Those were historical upgrade details, not current purchase terms. In that 2021 announcement, EA said more than 20 million players worldwide had played Fallen Order across consoles, platforms, and subscription services; that is a historical player count, not a current sales figure. Can you play a physical copy of Survivor offline?
Not for the initial installation: EA says a disc copy needs an internet connection to install the Day 1 patch. After that installation, the game can be played offline. This requirement is specific to physical-copy installation; see EA’s FAQ.
