Squarespace does not publish an official ranking of the 14 “best” store designs. Its live catalog lists 47 online-store templates, so the selections below are editorial starting points—not tested winners or a platform-endorsed top 14. Choose by product presentation, browsing needs, brand style, mobile experience, and the commerce tools your business requires.
One distinction matters before you browse: version 7.1 sites all share the same template, while version 7.0 sites use template families with different features and style settings. The current catalog is therefore best treated as a set of design starting points to preview and customize, not a list of separate 7.1 feature sets. Browse Squarespace online-store templates and check each demo using your own product types and realistic imagery.

How to choose a Squarespace store design
A suitable design should make it easy for customers to understand what you sell and find the right item. Treat the following as a practical checklist rather than a performance scorecard:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Product presentation: Check whether images, product details, prices, and available choices have enough room. The right visual balance depends on what you sell and the quality of your photography.
- Catalog and browsing: Try the navigation and category structure with the size and variety of your actual product range. A layout that feels clear for a small collection may not communicate a larger catalog as well.
- Brand fit: Decide whether the design supports the style you want—such as restrained, colorful, editorial, handmade, or utility-focused. These are visual judgments, not claims about sales results.
- Phone usability: Preview the demo on a phone and test browsing and product pages. Squarespace says its templates are responsive, but that does not establish that one design performs better than another. Squarespace’s version guidance describes responsive templates and the distinction between versions 7.0 and 7.1.
- Commerce fit: Confirm that your intended products and required tools are supported on the plan you select. Squarespace describes store pages for physical products, services, and downloads, and its product guide lists features across Basic, Core, Plus, and Advanced plans. Check the current product and plan guidance before committing.
Squarespace says demo sites use sample content. Replace that content mentally—or in a trial setup—with representative product photos, names, descriptions, and categories before deciding. A polished sample storefront is not evidence of conversion, revenue, search, or speed outcomes.

14 Squarespace store designs to consider
The table groups current catalog names by the kind of visual direction or store structure a merchant might want to explore. These use-case labels are editorial impressions, not official template descriptions or comparative test results. The catalog does not establish individual mobile behavior or a particular catalog-size limit, so preview each demo with your own content.

What the version distinction means
Squarespace 7.1 and 7.0 should not be treated as interchangeable template libraries. Squarespace says every 7.1 site shares the same template, while 7.0 uses families whose feature sets and style parameters vary; 7.0 family features cannot simply be mixed and matched. In either case, a design is a starting point for customization. Check the version before relying on a feature mentioned in older template documentation. Read Squarespace’s template and version guidance.

Check that the store can support what you sell
A design choice cannot substitute for checking commerce requirements. Squarespace describes store pages that can display service, physical, and download products in a list or grid, with product images, description highlights, and prices, followed by cart and checkout. Review how store pages and products work.
For physical goods, Squarespace’s guidance also discusses categories, tags, filters, product add-ons, discounts, abandoned checkout emails, and related products. Its commerce overview describes merchandising, order management, shipping and fulfillment, payments, tax management, and third-party extensions. These are platform feature descriptions; availability can depend on the plan, product type, and current configuration. Check product features and plan details and review Squarespace’s commerce overview.

A practical way to make the final choice
- Shortlist by visual direction. Pick a few demos that suit your brand and merchandise; do not treat the order in the catalog as a quality ranking.
- Use realistic content. Compare with product photos, names, descriptions, prices, and options similar to what customers will see.
- Test the browsing path. On desktop and phone, try to reach an item from the storefront navigation and understand its details and purchase choices.
- Verify version and operations. Confirm whether the design or documentation refers to 7.0 or 7.1, then check that your products and required commerce features fit the plan.
- Choose the one that communicates your range clearly. The available evidence supports evaluating visual and structural fit; it does not establish that a particular template increases sales, search rankings, or loading speed.
