Spotify Premium Family gives eligible people who live at the same address separate Spotify accounts under one paid subscription. The plan manager pays and controls invitations; household rules, membership limits, and prices depend on the country and sometimes the plan’s signup date.
Who can join, and how many accounts are included?
Spotify’s Ireland support page describes Premium Family as covering up to six family members, including the plan manager. That figure is evidence for the Ireland plan described on that page, not a universal limit: plan sizes and terms can vary by market and signup date. Check the offer and terms shown for your country before deciding.

Eligibility is based on living together, not simply being related. Members must live with the manager and provide the same home address when they join. Spotify may ask members to verify the address again if the manager changes it or Spotify cannot confirm a member’s address.

The manager
The manager selects the plan, supplies the household address and payment method, pays the full subscription price, and invites or manages members through the account page. The manager is responsible for the plan even if fewer than the maximum number of people join.

Other members
Each member uses a separate Spotify account and signs in independently. A member needs an invitation from the manager and must confirm the plan address when accepting it.
How to set up or join Family
- Manager: Choose Premium Family in Spotify’s plan options, enter the home address, and provide a payment method.
- Manager: Invite household members through the account page.
- Member: Open the invitation while signed in to the Spotify account they intend to use.
- Member: Accept the invitation and enter the plan address.
If Spotify requests address reverification by email, the member has seven days to re-enter the address. Spotify says a member who misses that window or fails verification loses Family access and returns to Free; restrictions also apply to joining another Family or Duo plan. Spotify’s current guidance says a member can switch plans only once every 12 months. See Spotify’s Family plan guidance for Ireland and its address verification guidance for the applicable process.

Who pays, and what happens when billing changes?
The manager is charged the full plan price regardless of how many places are occupied. Spotify does not establish one current price for every country; check the price displayed in your local offer.

Spotify’s U.S. billing guidance says an existing direct Spotify Premium subscription switches automatically to Family. If payment is through a mobile provider or another company, the subscriber must cancel that billing and wait for the current Premium period to end before joining. A member’s remaining Premium time is forfeited when billing moves to the manager. These transition details are U.S.-specific; check the local terms for your account. Removing members does not itself downgrade the subscription. The manager must switch to a different plan to stop paying for Family.
When Duo may fit better
For two people who live together, Spotify describes Premium Duo as a discounted plan with two separate Premium accounts and one paying manager. Household size is the clearest distinction supported by Spotify’s plan descriptions: compare Duo for two co-residents and Family when more eligible household members need accounts. Confirm local pricing and terms before choosing. Spotify’s U.S. Duo plan details describe that plan’s scope.

Audiobooks and managed accounts for young listeners
On Family and Duo, the audiobook listening time included with the plan is available only to the manager. The manager can purchase audiobook hours for other members.
A parent or legal guardian must manage a Family plan to create a managed account for a young listener. Spotify’s U.S. setup guidance also warns that converting an existing account can remove some content or features and affect listening history and personal information after the seven-day undo period. Check these points before subscribing
- Count how many people need separate Premium accounts.
- Confirm that every member lives at the manager’s address.
- Check the current local price, plan capacity, and any terms tied to an older subscription.
- Verify whether existing Premium billing is direct or handled by a mobile provider or another company.
- Make sure the manager is comfortable paying the full amount and managing invitations and any young-listener settings.
