Sports Betting Apps Compared: Features, Fees, and Responsible Gambling Tools

Sportsbook apps vary by state. Learn what to compare in betting features, payment terms, withdrawals, and responsible-gambling controls before opening or funding an account.

There is no single sportsbook app that is available or best for every US bettor: legal access depends on where you are physically located, and payment terms and app features can vary by state. The available evidence supports a practical comparison of selected DraftKings and FanDuel account and responsible-gambling details, but not a current, like-for-like ranking of their betting features or fees. Before depositing, check the app’s current terms for your state and compare the specific controls and payment conditions that matter to you.

First check whether the app is legal where you are

Sportsbook apps are jurisdiction-specific. You generally need to be physically present in a place where the operator is authorized, and the app may use geolocation checks to confirm your location. New York offers a documented example: its Gaming Commission says approved geolocation services are used to ensure account activity takes place within state borders. That is a New York example, not a nationwide availability list.

The Commission’s report on the 2024 reporting period listed nine licensed mobile sports wagering operators in New York: Bally Bet, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, ESPN Bet, Fanatics Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, Resorts World Bet, and Rush Street Interactive. The list is specific to New York and that reporting period; verify the current regulator list for your state before signing up.

What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you

Sportsbook comparisons are most useful when they separate five questions: whether the app is permitted where you are, what markets and in-play features it offers, how money can move in and out, how usable the account and support experience is, and which responsible-gambling controls are available. The verified details here are narrower: official DraftKings help content documents several account controls, and FanDuel’s terms describe conditions that may apply to withdrawals. They do not establish a complete current feature ranking or a comparable fee schedule for either operator.

Operator Details established here Details to verify in your state
DraftKings Its official responsible-gaming page describes deposit, wagering, and time limits, plus self-exclusion. Decreasing a limit takes effect immediately; an increase requires waiting until the previous limit expires. Sports and market coverage, live-betting and bet-building options, current cashier methods, fees, withdrawal limits and timing, and the availability of individual controls in your jurisdiction are not stated here (DraftKings Help Center and responsible-gaming page).
FanDuel Its Terms of Use, updated July 16, 2026, describe identity and anti-fraud or compliance checks before withdrawal and say additional information may be requested. Sports and market coverage, live-betting and bet-building options, current cashier methods, fees, withdrawal limits and timing, and responsible-gambling controls are not stated here (FanDuel Terms of Use).

“Not stated” does not mean a feature or charge is absent. It means the available official material does not establish it for a current, state-specific comparison.

Compare betting features in the app you can actually use

Before choosing an app, check its current state-specific offering rather than relying on a national list or a general feature claim. Compare the sports and leagues you follow, the markets offered for those events, whether live betting is available, and whether the app lets you combine selections into a bet. Availability can vary by jurisdiction, and no like-for-like feature inventory for DraftKings and FanDuel is established here.

  • Look for the sports and leagues you actually bet on, not just the total number advertised.
  • Check which markets are offered for the events you follow and whether live markets are available in your location.
  • If bet building matters to you, inspect how the app handles combined selections and what restrictions apply.
  • Review the account-help and customer-support options in the app; the available sources do not establish a current head-to-head usability or support ranking.

Compare deposits and withdrawals by their conditions, not a headline

There is no verified all-operator fee comparison here, so it would be misleading to say that either app always charges a particular fee—or never charges one. Terms can depend on your state, the payment method, and the operator’s rules. Check the selected app’s current state-specific cashier and terms before depositing.

FanDuel’s withdrawal terms make clear why “fast withdrawals” is not enough to compare: identity, fraud-prevention, or compliance checks may apply, and the operator may request additional information before permitting a withdrawal. This describes possible conditions, not a guaranteed processing time or evidence of a routine fee. DraftKings’ US Help Center separates deposit and withdrawal information by product and account context, so confirm the instructions shown for your specific account.

Use a checklist like this for each app. Record the jurisdiction and date you checked it; if the current official terms do not establish a value, mark it unverified rather than guessing.

  • Which deposit methods are supported, and does the payment provider charge separately?
  • Which withdrawal methods are available, and are they constrained by how you deposited?
  • Are there minimums, limits, or operator-imposed charges?
  • What verification documents or other information could be requested?
  • What processing window is stated, and what checks or other conditions can affect it?

DraftKings’ help content also cautions that, in some jurisdictions, deposited funds cannot be used across or transferred between its products. That information is jurisdiction-dependent and comes from older help content; check the terms and account details currently shown in your state. DraftKings phrases the practical question plainly: “Where can I use my deposit?”

Compare responsible-gambling controls one function at a time

A single “responsible gambling tools” label does not tell you which controls an app actually offers or how they work. Check whether you can set deposit, total-wager, time or session, maximum-stake, and loss limits; how to lower them; when a change takes effect; and what cool-off or self-exclusion options are available. Limits can help you manage account activity, but they do not remove the risks of gambling.

DraftKings: documented controls and change timing

DraftKings’ official sportsbook responsible-gaming page describes deposit limits that can be set daily, weekly, or monthly, along with wagering limits, time limits, and self-exclusion. It states: “Deposit Limits – Set daily, weekly or monthly limits on the amount you deposit into your account.” The page says limit decreases take effect immediately; an increase must wait until the previous limit expires. Check the current app for the available limit types and the self-exclusion process in your jurisdiction.

New York: historical evidence that controls differ

The New York State Gaming Commission’s report, updated December 17, 2025, recorded account-information notifications and self-imposed limits required under Commission Rule 5330.34. Its observations concerned nine mobile wagering operators during the 2024 reporting period, not app functionality in 2026 or availability across the country.

Limit information reported New York operators in 2024 Share
Deposit 9 of 9 100%
Total wager 8 of 9 89%
Time 7 of 9 78%
Maximum wager size 6 of 9 67%
Loss 5 of 9 44%

These are regulator-reported observations of information offered by New York platforms in 2024, not a live feature audit or a guarantee that a specific control is available in an app today. Ask the app itself how to set each limit and what happens when you change it.

Use a state-specific decision process

  1. Confirm authorization: Check your state regulator’s current operator list, then confirm that the app permits wagering from your physical location.
  2. Check the markets you need: Open the app’s current offering for your state and inspect the sports, markets, live options, and bet-building features that matter to you.
  3. Read the cashier terms: Compare methods, possible fees, limits, verification requirements, and stated processing conditions before funding an account.
  4. Inspect controls before depositing: Find the deposit, wager, time, stake, loss, cool-off, and self-exclusion settings; note which are available and when changes take effect.
  5. Compare like with like: Record the date and jurisdiction for each check. Treat information that is missing from current official terms as unverified, not as proof that a feature or fee does not exist.

Promotions and referral disclosures matter

In New York, sportsbook advertising rules prohibit misleading promotions and require affiliate marketing partners to make a reasonably prominent disclosure when they have agreed to promote, refer customers to, or market for an operator. The rules also prohibit language that presents betting as risk-free or encourages chasing losses. If a comparison includes referral links, disclose the relationship clearly and do not imply that signup guarantees a win, financial success, or risk-free betting. Those New York requirements are not a substitute for checking the rules that apply in other jurisdictions.
