SpaceX has shown that an orbital-class rocket booster can be recovered and flown again many times: on August 25, 2026, Falcon 9 booster B1067 completed its 37th mission. That is compelling evidence for repeated first-stage reuse—not proof that the entire Falcon 9 is reusable or that each launch saves a known amount of money.
What SpaceX has proved—and what it has not
The clearest evidence is operational repetition. In its August 25, 2026 report, Space.com reported that B1067 flew its 37th mission during Falcon 9’s 100th flight of 2026. The booster landed on an Atlantic drone ship about 8.5 minutes after liftoff. Space.com also reported 165 Falcon 9 missions in 2025. These are dated milestones, not fixed records; subsequent flights may change them.

Those flights demonstrate that a Falcon 9 first stage can return, undergo the work needed to prepare it, and fly again repeatedly in an active launch program. They do not establish a maximum possible number of flights for every booster, nor do they show that the full rocket is reused.

Falcon 9’s first stage powers the initial part of ascent, separates, and returns under its own control. It may land at a terrestrial landing zone or on an ocean-going drone ship. A recovered booster can be inspected and refurbished for a later mission.

The second stage continues carrying the payload toward orbit. The FAA explains that it either remains in orbit or disintegrates during atmospheric reentry; it is not recovered as part of Falcon 9’s reuse system. The agency’s Falcon program description sets out this distinction. In short, a “37-flight booster” means one first stage has flown 37 missions, not that one complete Falcon 9 has been recovered and reused 37 times.
Why the record matters for launch cadence
Reflight means a launch provider can return recovered first-stage hardware to service rather than manufacture a new booster for every mission. That makes reuse relevant to operating a high-cadence program, though the flight count alone does not show exactly how much time, labor, inspection, or refurbishment each turnaround requires.

Regulatory planning figures should not be mistaken for completed launches. The FAA’s program page describes an October 2025 environmental review at Vandenberg that assessed up to 100 Falcon launches per year across SLC-4 and SLC-6. That is an analyzed level for the sites, not a report that 100 launches occurred there in a year. The FAA’s environmental records address proposed and assessed activity as well as operations.
What the evidence says about cost
NASA’s Launch Services Program says that reusability allows SpaceX to refly the most expensive parts of Falcon 9 and thereby drives down the cost of access to space. That supports the direction of the economic case: reusing valuable hardware can reduce the need to replace it for each mission.

- HOBBY MODEL KIT – Unassembled model packed in an envelope with easy to follow instructions. Ideal for ages 14 and up.
- NO GLUE OR SOLDER NEEDED – Parts can be easily clipped from the metal sheets. Tweezers are the recommended tool for bending and twisting the connection tabs.
- SPACEX FALCON 9 - 3 Sheet Model with a Moderate difficulty level. Assembled Size: 3.00 L x 1.50 W x 7.00 H inches. 84 Pieces.
- FROM STEEL SHEETS TO 3D – Pop out the pieces and connect using tabs and holes. Includes illustrated instructions.
- HIGHLY DETAILED ETCHED MODEL – Display your 3D model once completed - collect and build them all.
NASA’s Launch Services Program Rockets page does not provide a current audited cost per Falcon 9 launch, a per-flight refurbishment cost, or a verified dollar saving attributable to reuse. The 37-flight record is evidence of repeated use, not a standalone calculation of launch economics.

Falcon 9 is an operating, partially reusable launch system: its first stage is recovered and reflown, while its second stage is not recovered. SpaceX describes Starship as pursuing full and rapid reusability. That is a separate program and design goal; it should not be treated as Falcon 9’s configuration or as proof that Starship has Falcon 9’s operational reuse record.
