SpaceX is reportedly seeking $40 billion in financing to buy Nvidia chips, but the plan is unconfirmed: Reuters reported on October 6, 2026, that the Financial Times had cited people familiar with the matter, and Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report. No completed financing or confirmed company announcement has been established.

What the reported $40 billion financing would include

According to the Financial Times account relayed by Investing.com, the proposed package would consist of about $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade debt. The figures are reported terms, not confirmed funding commitments. The reports do not provide interest rates, maturities, collateral details, or covenants.

The FT account reportedly names Apollo Global Management as the financing effort’s lead and PIMCO among a small group of lenders in talks. Neither role establishes that a participant has committed funds or that the financing has closed. Investing.com’s report attributes these details to the FT.

What the money is reportedly for—and what remains unknown

The reported purpose is to purchase Nvidia chips for data-center infrastructure. The available accounts do not identify a chip model, chip count, purchase contract, or delivery schedule, so it is not possible to say which Nvidia hardware SpaceX intends to acquire.

How firmly established is the plan?

The financing should be treated as a reported proposal, not a completed transaction. Reuters’ October 6 account says the FT cited people familiar with the matter and notes that Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Neither Reuters’ account nor the Investing.com report is a statement from SpaceX, Apollo, PIMCO, or Nvidia. Reuters’ report carries the verification caveat.
