Choose Operations for objective-led co-op missions, Stratagems for missions shaped by extra conditions, or Siege for escalating survival waves. Chaos Siege adds a Heretic Astartes faction variant, while Crucible is a separate endgame challenge for level-25 classes. The details below reflect official information available on October 3, 2026; these modes can change with updates.
How do the Space Marine 2 PvE modes differ?
Operations, Stratagems, and Siege are cooperative PvE activities for up to three players: you and as many as two teammates. The table is a playstyle guide, not an official ranking. The developers have not published comparative measurements for average run time, difficulty, or rewards per hour.

|---|---|---|
| Operations | Co-op missions with defined objectives | A straightforward mission-based starting point |
| Stratagems | PvE missions affected by Stratagems and Battlefield Conditions | Mission play with additional effects or changing conditions |

When should you choose Operations?
Operations are the clearest choice if you want a cooperative mission built around an objective. New Operations have been added over time: Reclamation was announced in November 2025, and Purgation in May 2026. Those announcements confirm additions, not a complete or guaranteed current mission roster, so use the in-game list to see what is live.

What makes Stratagems different?
Stratagems add effects and conditions to PvE mission play. Official updates describe both Stratagems and Battlefield Conditions, and Patch 15 adjusted named Stratagem behavior and fixed a Stratagem bug. The official material does not enumerate every rule or publish a fixed live rotation. Pick this mode if you enjoy mission content with added variables, but check the current in-game conditions rather than assuming a particular effect is always active.
How do Siege and Chaos Siege work?
Standard Siege
Siege is the wave-survival choice: its waves become increasingly dangerous. The May 2026 Purgation update revamped Siege progression and added the Hive Tyrant and Mutalith Vortex Beast to the mode.

Patch 15, dated October 1, 2026, introduced Chaos to Siege. As Heretic Astartes, players fight Tyranid Hive Fleet forces and Loyalists, with Cultists and a Helbrute supporting them. The new Hive map is set in an Avarax Hive City, where the Chaos side defends strategic locations and attempts rituals.

What is Crucible, and who can access it?
Crucible is an endgame PvE activity, not an option every class can enter immediately. Patch 15 says it is available to level-25 classes and launched through PvE Operations. Players apply Penances to raise mission difficulty; Crucible progression earns Crucible XP and customization rewards, including Lamenters armor parts. Its matchmaking pool is separate from standard PvE, so it is not simply another difficulty setting inside ordinary matchmaking.
The developers describe Crucible as their “first true endgame activity” in the official Patch 15 notes and say its rewards are intended to expand over time. That statement describes the developers’ plans, not a guarantee about when or what future rewards will be added.

- Want to hold out against waves? Choose standard Siege.
- Want to fight as Heretic Astartes in PvE? Choose Chaos Siege on Hive.

These are playstyle recommendations based on the documented activity structures, not an official ranking of which mode is best.
