The strongest practical approach is to build a squad around complementary jobs: control waves, pressure dangerous targets, cover objectives, and keep the team safe when someone has to split off. Treat that as a planning framework, not a developer ranking or a tested winning composition.
Patch 15 added Chaos Siege on 1 October 2026. You play as Chaos Space Marines against Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines across two new Siege sectors on Avarax. Focus Entertainment’s announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

What makes a good Chaos Siege team?
Think in terms of coverage rather than a tier list. The useful questions are whether the squad can handle groups and tough targets, respond to objectives without losing formation, and deal with threats at both close and longer ranges. Those are strategic priorities inferred from a defense mode—not published class performance ratings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Wave control: Make sure someone can manage groups so the whole squad is not forced to focus on individual enemies.
- Elite pressure: Have a teammate ready to concentrate on especially dangerous or durable targets rather than letting the squad’s damage scatter.
- Objective response: Agree who can leave the main formation when an objective needs attention, and who will keep the remaining players stable.
- Range and control: Cover both ranged threats and close-range pressure without assuming a particular enemy faction has a specific counter.
No official source reviewed publishes Chaos Siege class win rates, a recommended composition, or a weapon leaderboard. The roles below are therefore a way to make squad decisions, not claims that a particular class wins more often.

Choose classes by the job your squad needs
For a squad short on wave control
Prioritize a player whose current loadout can reliably deal with groups. This gives the rest of the team more room to focus on high-threat targets or move to an objective. Check the class’s current in-game abilities and available weapons rather than assuming a class label alone guarantees the role.
For a squad that struggles with dangerous targets
Assign one player to focus damage on the toughest or most disruptive enemy present. The purpose is to avoid spreading the team’s attention so widely that priority targets remain active. The official Patch 15 material does not establish which class is best at this job.

- Includes 2 multipart plastic Space Marines Intercessor miniatures with distinct poses. Also includes a Starter paint brush
- Paints include – - 1 Abaddon Black (Base) – 1 Macragge Blue (Base) – 1 Mournfang Brown (Base) – 1 Leadbelcher (Base) – 1 Retributor Armour (Base) – 1 Corax White (Base)
- These miniatures are unpainted and need to be assembled. We recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints.
For objectives and temporary separation
Before a player leaves the group to handle an objective, decide who stays together and who will cover the gap. A mobile or otherwise self-sufficient build may be a sensible choice for the objective runner, but that is a team-planning preference—not a verified class ranking for Chaos Siege.

Keep a player with tools suited to holding the group together near the main formation, particularly when another teammate is away. Choose based on the abilities and equipment available in your current build; official sources do not identify a single class as the required support pick.

How to think about weapons, including the One-Handed Thunder Hammer
Match a weapon to the gap in the squad rather than selecting it on the assumption that it is universally strongest. Compare options by the job you need—group control, pressure on an elite or boss, mobility while responding to objectives, team protection, and how easily the wielder can keep contributing while separated. These are useful comparison criteria, not official performance results.
One-Handed Thunder Hammer
Patch 15 adds the One-Handed Thunder Hammer for Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine. Focus Entertainment describes it as a fast weapon that transitions between single-target and area attacks; attacks build charges that can be spent on stronger attacks. That makes it a flexible option to consider when your player can make use of both attack patterns. The announcement does not say it out-damages other weapons or is the best Chaos Siege pick.

- A 232-page rules supplement for Warhammer 40,000
- A guide to the background and history of the Space Marines, including evocative artwork and exhilarating photography
- Includes the rules you'll need to form your own strike force, including 15 detachments, and 85 datasheets
- Presented in an easy-to-carry softcover format, with a handsome slipcase
Because weapon balance and available systems can change, check the current in-game weapon details before locking in a build. The official announcement supports the hammer’s stated mechanics and class eligibility, not a comparative DPS claim.
Plan around Chaos Siege’s confirmed rules—and separate out legacy Siege details
Patch 15 confirms Chaos Space Marines fighting Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines in two new Siege sectors on Avarax. Do not assume every rule from the original Siege mode carries over unchanged to this Chaos variant.

The original Siege notes describe endless waves, three rotating sectors, five waves per sector before moving on, dynamic side objectives, a shop and reinforcements, bosses every fifth wave, and harder play after wave 15. These historical mechanics explain why objective coverage, resource decisions, and late-wave survival are useful planning concerns. They are not, by themselves, confirmation that Chaos Siege uses the same loop. Consult the mode’s current UI and Patch 15 notes for what applies in your session.
Likewise, Siege 2.0 introduced shop items, bosses, additional objectives, Blessings, and Atonements; later updates adjusted rewards, high-wave enemy resistance caps, minibosses, and accolade rewards. Those changes make old advice about exact wave rewards or system effects version-sensitive.

Patch 13 introduced Blessings and Atonements. Patch 15 temporarily removes Cursed Relic from the Atonement pool and says Patch 16 will revisit the systems. That is a reason not to treat a particular Blessing or Atonement as a settled “best” build choice: its availability or balance may change with patches. Check the current patch notes and in-game options when assembling a loadout.

Quick Recap
A practical squad-planning checklist
- Identify the gap. Decide whether your group most needs wave control, focus on dangerous targets, objective response, or formation support.
- Assign a job to each player. Avoid building three loadouts around the same role if that leaves another essential job uncovered.
- Agree on objective coverage. Decide who can split off and who stays together before the team is under pressure.
- Coordinate spending if the mode offers the legacy Siege resource loop. The original Siege design used objectives, a shop, and reinforcements, but confirm that Chaos Siege retains those systems before planning purchases around them.
- Review the build after updates. Patch notes can change weapon, reward, or Blessing and Atonement behavior; choose based on the current version rather than an old build recommendation.
