The application also discusses notifications and non-game interface features. These are possibilities disclosed in the filing, not confirmed specifications or evidence that the design has been built or tested.

Is it a PlayStation 6 controller?
The patent does not call the controller a PS6 accessory or name a console generation. News coverage has framed the concept in relation to the PS6, but that association is not established by the filing. MP1st’s report on the patent
There is no confirmation in these sources of manufacturing, a launch date, price, console compatibility or consumer testing. Until Sony announces a product, it is more accurate to call this a patented modular controller concept than a forthcoming PlayStation controller.

How the concept differs from a current PlayStation controller
The PS5 DualSense provides context for the proposal, but it is a separate, existing controller—not the patented design. The application’s concept would add an icon-based interface and rotating member, with embodiments that allow controls to be removed or repositioned. That is a description of design options, not proof that the concept is better, more comfortable or more accessible than a conventional controller.
