The Sony XR-65A80L is a 2023, 65-inch-class OLED television with 4K resolution and Google TV. Sony’s own specification, manual and support pages document its panel, HDMI gaming features, dimensions, built-in audio design and support material. What those pages cannot tell you is how the set looks in a room. This article covers what Sony publishes, which regional differences matter, and what to verify before you buy or mount one. It does not include lab measurements, side-by-side tests or an independent score.
What this model is
The A80L is Sony’s 2023 BRAVIA XR line entry sold in a 65-inch class. Sony’s US specification page lists the diagonal as 65 inches, with 64.5 inches measured. That gap is normal for a nominal size and is why a 65-inch class set may be a fraction smaller than the number suggests when you measure the active screen. Sony’s product listing identifies the set as the BRAVIA XR 65-inch Class A80L OLED 4K HDR Google TV (2023) on Sony Electronics.

Display and HDR
For the US model, Sony specifies an OLED panel with 3840 × 2160 resolution and a 120 Hz panel refresh rate. The same US specification lists HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision compatibility. These are the formats the set is documented to accept; they do not indicate how well the set renders them. Sony’s listing does not give peak brightness, so there is no published figure to compare against LCD or other OLED models.
Check the Sony USA XR-65A80L specifications page for the exact wording, since the panel and format list is taken from that page.

Gaming and HDMI inputs
Gaming is where the regional pages differ most, so the table below compares the two Sony specification pages side by side. Read a cell as “not stated on the page cited here,” not as “unsupported.”
| Feature | Sony USA specification | Sony UK specification |
|---|---|---|
| 4K 120 Hz HDMI signal support | Listed | Not stated on the cited page |
| PS5 Auto HDR Tone Mapping | Listed | Not stated on the cited page |
| Auto Genre Picture Mode | Listed | Not stated on the cited page |
| VRR (variable refresh rate) | Not stated on the cited page | Listed on HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 |
| Number of HDMI inputs | Not stated on the cited page | Four |
In practice, a US buyer should confirm the VRR behaviour and HDMI port layout on the US page before assuming them. A UK buyer should confirm 120 Hz and PS5 features on the UK page before relying on them. Sony’s UK specification is at Sony UK XR-65A80L specifications.

- Confirm the VESA spacing on your TV’s rear panel or in the specification page matches 300 × 300 mm.
- Confirm the bracket’s rated load capacity is above the TV’s weight without stand (51.4 lb on the US listing).
- Check the SU-WL855 bracket document in Sony’s manuals list for compatibility and mounting limits before buying that bracket; the presence of the document does not by itself confirm it fits this set.
- Measure wall studs or anchors and confirm the fixing method suits the bracket’s manufacturer instructions.
Built-in audio
Sony describes the set’s sound system as Acoustic Surface Audio+, with three actuators and two subwoofers. Sony’s specification also lists five 10 W output ratings. These are design specifications from the manufacturer. They tell you the speaker architecture, not how the sound compares with a soundbar or how it sounds with your content. If audio matters to you, plan a listening test in a store or consider external speakers.

What is not established
No independent lab review or direct comparison test of the XR-65A80L was located, so the following remain unverified for this model:
- Measured SDR and HDR brightness
- Contrast in a controlled environment
- Reflection handling in a bright room
- Viewing-angle performance
- Input lag and motion handling
- Uniformity and upscaling quality
- Long-term burn-in risk
Sony’s specifications are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements, and no review score is given here.
Buying checks for a 2023 model
Because the A80L is a 2023 model, confirm it is still sold new in your market and check whether a newer Sony model has replaced it in your price range. If you buy one, the most useful pre-purchase checks are the regional HDMI and VRR details, your wall’s VESA and load fit, and the current firmware status on Sony’s live support page. Anything beyond that, including picture quality, belongs to a measured review rather than a specification sheet.
