The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless noise-canceling headphones were reported at $198, compared with a $400 reference price, in deal coverage published October 5–6, 2026. PCWorld reported the discount on October 5, and WIRED listed the same price at Amazon, B&H Photo, and Sony the following day. Those are dated reports, not confirmation that the price or stock is still available; check the retailer listing before buying.
What the $198 deal covers
This offer is for the Sony WH-1000XM5, not an unspecified pair of Sony headphones. PCWorld described the $198 price as 50% off its $400 reference price ahead of October Prime Day. WIRED’s October 6 roundup also listed the WH-1000XM5 at $198 from Amazon, B&H Photo, and Sony. The reports establish that price at those dates, but not that every retailer still has the same price or inventory.

What you get with the WH-1000XM5
The WH-1000XM5 is a wireless headphone model with noise cancellation. PCWorld highlights its Auto NC Optimizer, which adjusts noise cancellation based on how the headphones are worn and the surrounding environment. The available deal coverage does not establish a broader feature-by-feature assessment, so that feature alone is not a basis for assuming it will suit every listener.

At the reported $198 price, the WH-1000XM5 may be worth considering if you want this Sony noise-canceling model and the current retailer listing confirms the deal. Before placing an order, verify the exact model, final price, seller, and stock on the retailer’s page. Do not treat the $400 reference price as a guarantee of typical market value or the $198 figure as a price that remains live.
