Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has both free updates and paid DLC. The Season Pass and individual collaboration packs are paid options; some racers and other updates have been announced as free, and Nintendo’s US store also lists a free Extreme Gear download. What you can buy and what it costs depends on your platform and region, so check your platform’s store before purchasing.
Is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds DLC free?
Some content is free, and some costs extra. SEGA’s June 9, 2025 announcement separated free-update racers from a paid Season Pass: Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Ichiban Kasuga were announced as free-update characters, while the pass was planned to deliver six waves of crossover DLC, beginning with Minecraft. SEGA noted that planned content and release dates could change, so treat that announcement as the launch-era plan rather than a definitive list of what is available now. SEGA’s announcement explains the original distinction.

Free does not always mean that no download or internet connection is involved. For example, Nintendo’s US catalog lists the Blue Star Extreme Gear as a free download, while SEGA’s August 25, 2026 notice for the AXEL free update says an internet connection is required to claim add-ons. Nintendo’s US DLC catalog and SEGA’s AXEL notice apply to those specific listings and announcements.

What can you buy, and what does it cost?
Nintendo of America’s catalog is a US Nintendo eShop snapshot, not a global price list. At the time listed, it showed the Season Pass at $29.99 and standalone packs for Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at $5.99 each. The catalog also lists Blue Star Extreme Gear as free. Prices and availability can change; use your region’s platform store for the offer currently available to you.

| Season Pass | Six crossover DLC waves were the plan described in SEGA’s June 2025 announcement. Check the current store listing for available waves and contents. | $29.99 |

| Blue Star Extreme Gear | Free downloadable gear listed for Nintendo Switch. | Free |
The prices above are Nintendo of America catalog listings, not guaranteed prices in another country or on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or Epic. The Switch DLC catalog says the base game is required and sold separately. Check Nintendo’s listing for its current items and terms.
Do not assume the Season Pass is automatically cheaper than buying packs separately. Compare its current contents with the packs you want and already own, using the prices in your own store. The original six-wave plan alone does not establish which waves are currently available or how your platform handles entitlements.

How do updates, DLC, and online play relate?
SEGA’s March 19, 2026 Version 1.3.1 notice says players must update to the latest game version to use online modes and access DLC. That notice listed Ver. 1.3.1 for PlayStation 5 and 4, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, Steam, and Epic Games Store. It is a dated version reference, not confirmation that 1.3.1 is still the newest patch. Read SEGA’s Version 1.3.1 notice.
- Open the game’s update or software-information screen on your platform and install any available update.
- Check the relevant platform store for the DLC listing that matches your game edition and region.
- Connect to the internet when claiming add-ons; SEGA’s August 25, 2026 AXEL notice specifically says a connection is required for that claim.
Exact menu labels differ by platform, so use its own update screen and store rather than relying on a menu path from another system.

Which platforms and editions are covered?
SEGA’s June 2025 launch announcement named PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic Games Store for the planned September 25, 2025 release; Switch 2 was then described as a later release. Those are the platforms in that announcement, not a guarantee that a particular pack, edition, or offer is currently sold in every territory. Check the store for the platform you use.
Nintendo Switch 2 edition and upgrade
SEGA Japan’s product information gives Japan-specific Switch 2 details: the digital edition released December 4, 2025, the physical edition released April 10, 2026, and the upgrade pass from the Switch version was listed at ¥1,000. SEGA also says Switch save data can transfer to the Switch 2 edition. These dates, price, and terms are Japanese product information; they should not be treated as universal storefront pricing or entitlement rules. See SEGA Japan’s product information.

Werehog pack: a limited support remedy
SEGA Support’s January 8, 2026 article addressed a specific group: people who bought the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack between December 3 and December 17, 2025. Eligible purchasers could request an eShop code for the free Werehog DLC Pack by contacting support and providing proof of purchase. This was a remedy tied to that purchase window, not a general promise that the Werehog pack is free with every Switch 2 edition. Read SEGA Support’s eligibility and request details.

What to check before buying a pack
- Platform and region: Confirm the item appears in the store for your system and country; Nintendo’s listed prices above are US-specific.
- Edition: Make sure the DLC listing matches your base game edition, especially when comparing Switch and Switch 2 offers.

- Update and connection: Install the latest available game update; an online connection may be needed to claim particular add-ons.
- Existing purchases: Verify whether you already own the pack or pass on the platform where you play. The cited sources do not establish cross-platform DLC transfers or cross-buy.
