Compare the exact game’s PC and console listings—not PC and console gaming in general. Match the region and edition, then check price, included content, PC requirements, platform features, online play, saves, cross-buy, add-ons and account requirements. These details vary by game, so an unanswered point should stay unknown until an official listing or support page confirms it.
Start with the exact game, editions and platforms
Before comparing, write down the game’s full title, the specific PC storefront, the console model and the editions you are considering. A PC listing and a console listing may refer to different editions or content bundles. Compare prices in the same region and for the same edition, and check the current product pages because prices and entitlements can change.

Use the game publisher or developer’s official product and support pages, along with the relevant storefront listings. If an official source does not establish a feature, treat it as unconfirmed rather than assuming that it works the same across platforms.
Compare the purchase and what it includes
Check the price of the same edition in your region, then compare what that edition actually includes. Look for expansions, bonus missions, cosmetic items, gameplay items and any upgrades sold separately. A higher-priced bundle is not automatically better value if it includes content you do not want; a lower-priced base game may also require separate purchases for content included in another edition.

Record the base game and each add-on separately. Do not assume buying the game once gives you access to it on another platform, or that downloadable content (DLC) bought on one platform is available on another.
Check whether your PC meets the game’s requirements
Find the official minimum and recommended PC requirements for the specific game. Compare them with your own PC’s processor, graphics hardware, memory, operating system and available storage. Minimum requirements indicate the publisher’s stated baseline; recommended requirements are a separate target. Neither is a guarantee of identical performance on every system.

PlayStation’s PC Games FAQs and PlayStation gaming on PC pages illustrate why it is worth checking title-specific requirements and account conditions rather than assuming all PC releases have the same rules. If your hardware does not meet a listed requirement, do not infer that a particular upgrade will solve the issue without checking the game’s requirements and your PC configuration.
Compare platform-specific features and controls
On each exact edition’s listing or official support page, look for graphics and performance options, supported controls, local multiplayer and other features you care about. Do not assume that a feature on one platform is present on another, or that a console and PC edition offer the same settings. If a feature is important but not documented, seek confirmation from the publisher or developer before buying.

Verify online play and subscriptions
Check whether the game supports cross-play with the specific platforms your friends use, and whether cross-play is optional or required. Cross-play concerns multiplayer compatibility; it does not establish that saves, progression, purchases or add-ons are shared.
Also check whether playing online on your chosen console requires a subscription, and whether any account requirements apply. Account rules can vary by title. PlayStation’s PC support information, for example, notes that account requirements depend on the game.

Treat cross-play, shared saves, cross-buy and DLC as separate checks
These terms describe different things. Cross-play lets players on supported platforms play together. Cross-progression or cross-save concerns whether progress can be used across platforms. Cross-buy concerns whether one purchase grants access to more than one platform. DLC transfer concerns whether add-on entitlements carry across platform accounts or stores. Confirm each separately for the exact game.

Other official guidance shows why a general platform rule is not enough. Microsoft’s Microsoft Store policies say that whether game progress and in-game items sync is at the title’s discretion, and that Microsoft Store-managed expansions may not roam between platform stores. Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 support answer says that game has no cross-buy or cross-progression between PC and PS5. Bungie’s Destiny 2 Cross Save Guide says DLC licenses do not transfer between platform accounts under Cross Save. These are title- or service-specific examples, not universal rules.
