Nixiegraph is a maker-built clock that pairs an ESP32-S3 with LCDs arranged to evoke vintage Nixie tubes. Its creator says it can display weather information from OpenWeather, alongside time and other modes. Despite the tube-like appearance, it uses LCDs—not actual Nixie display tubes.
How the clock creates its Nixie-like look
Project maker AudienceHorror calls Nixiegraph a Nixie-inspired LCD clock. The display assemblies sit behind custom glass tube covers and grids, giving the screens a tube-like presentation. Each assembly connects through a small round interface PCB in its base, according to the maker’s detailed project post on r/arduino.

The visual effect is the point: the glass and grid frame LCDs to resemble the appearance of Nixie tubes, but the clock does not use the neon-filled tubes found in traditional Nixie displays.
What hardware does Nixiegraph use?
AudienceHorror identifies an ESP32-S3 as the controller and 1.9-inch ST7789 IPS LCDs as the displays, driven with the TFT_eSPI Arduino library. The maker says five displays share an SPI bus, with an individual chip-select pin for each screen so the controller can address them one at a time. These are the components described by the creator, not a complete parts list or a specification for a particular ESP32-S3 development board.

The build also includes custom-designed PCBs, glass covers and grids. The maker’s posts do not name the exact controller-board model or provide final build files.
Weather, time and other modes
The maker says a configuration page collects Wi-Fi credentials and location, which the clock uses for time-zone and weather information. AudienceHorror identifies OpenWeather as the weather-data source in a later r/esp32 update. The posts do not specify the API endpoint, polling interval or OpenWeather plan.

Weather is one part of a broader set of creator-described features. AudienceHorror also mentions physical switches for changing modes, Morse practice and sending Morse-coded messages to Telegram contacts. An audio equalizer uses an INMP441 microphone; the maker says a MAX98357 amplifier module is intended to drive a speaker in future use. These capabilities are reported by the creator and should not be taken as independently verified performance claims.

In the r/arduino project post, AudienceHorror describes the clock as a work in progress and says they had not decided whether to share build details. A later post says they are trying a Kickstarter and plan to offer the clock or separate NixieLCD tube assemblies. That post does not confirm that a campaign launched or that either product is currently for sale.

The available posts therefore do not establish that Nixiegraph is an open-source build, provide downloadable firmware, or confirm present purchase availability. Anyone interested in buying the clock or assemblies should check for a current campaign or official sales announcement rather than assume one is active.

The maker’s reported display specification offers a useful starting point for researching components: 1.9-inch ST7789 IPS LCD modules. A generic ESP32-S3 development board is another relevant category, but the creator has not named the exact board used. Check dimensions and interfaces against your intended enclosure and wiring before buying.

Individual screens and a controller board will not reproduce Nixiegraph’s custom glass covers, grids, interface PCBs or firmware. The project posts also do not provide enough information to treat them as a complete build guide.
