That is a comparison of two phones, not a controlled test of the chips alone. The available evidence does not establish a universal winner for gaming, battery life, sustained performance, or value.
At a glance: which processor is faster?
For the cited Geekbench 6 comparison, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 in the Xiaomi Poco F7 scores higher than the Dimensity 8400 Max in the Realme GT 7T, in both single-core and multi-core results. The difference is useful as device-level evidence, but it cannot be treated as a guaranteed advantage for every phone with either chipset.

How their specifications compare
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4
Qualcomm lists a 3.2 GHz peak CPU speed and Adreno graphics for the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Its product brief specifies a 4 nm process, LP-DDR5x memory up to 4800 MHz and 24 GB density, UFS 4.0 storage, and display support up to WQHD+ at 144 Hz. These are platform capabilities; an individual phone may not implement every feature or maximum.

Qualcomm also lists an integrated Snapdragon 5G modem system with peak download speeds up to 4.2 Gbps, Wi-Fi 7 with stated peak speeds up to 5.8 Gbps, Bluetooth 6.0, and support for OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, and OpenCL 2.0 FP. Actual connectivity depends on the phone’s hardware, carrier, network, and conditions.
Dimensity 8400 Max
According to 91mobiles’ Dimensity 8400 Max listing, this variant has an eight-core Cortex-A725 CPU: one core at 3.25 GHz, three at 3.0 GHz, and four at 2.1 GHz. The listing also identifies a 4 nm process, LPDDR5X memory, Mali-G720 MC7 graphics, model number MT6899, and the Realme GT 7T as a phone using the chip.
The official MediaTek Dimensity 8400 infographic describes the base Dimensity 8400, including its all-big-core CPU design, Mali-G720 MC7 GPU, and Frame Rate Converter support. It is not a separate official product brief for the “Max” variant, so Max-specific specifications here are attributed to the device-and-chipset listing rather than presented as a distinct MediaTek specification sheet.

Geekbench 6: a device comparison
In NanoReview’s comparison of the Poco F7 and Realme GT 7T, the Poco leads by 427 points in single-core (2,040 versus 1,613) and 331 points in multi-core (6,373 versus 6,042). Those are scores for the named retail phones, not a same-device chip swap or a controlled laboratory comparison.
Other Dimensity 8400 Max figures
91mobiles reports Geekbench results of 1,651 single-core and 5,998 multi-core for its tested devices using the Dimensity 8400 Max. It also identifies 1,761,804 as its highest recorded AnTuTu total for a device with that chipset. The publisher describes these as real-world device testing and coverage figures; they are a snapshot, not a score every phone should be expected to match.
Keep unlike tests separate
CPU Scores’ Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 versus Dimensity 8400 comparison shows Snapdragon-leading results for the base Dimensity 8400 comparison, but it is not a matched-phone comparison for the 8400 Max. Its results should not be combined with 91mobiles’ or NanoReview’s figures as though they came from one test setup. Benchmark version, handset, firmware, and test conditions all matter; AnTuTu totals also reflect more than CPU speed.

Gaming, heat, and battery life
Qualcomm lists hardware-accelerated ray tracing with global illumination, Snapdragon Adaptive Performance Engine, Game Super Resolution 2.0, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 among the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4’s gaming features. MediaTek’s base Dimensity 8400 infographic lists the Mali-G720 MC7 GPU and Frame Rate Converter support. Feature lists describe platform capabilities, not guaranteed frame rates or a verdict on which phone plays better.
The available evidence does not provide a controlled, same-condition thermal or battery-endurance comparison for these two chipset variants. To choose between specific phones for gaming, look for device reviews that report frame rates over time, heat, power draw, and the games and graphics settings tested. A short benchmark score cannot establish sustained performance.
Connectivity and cameras are not chip-only decisions
Qualcomm publishes up to 4.2 Gbps peak modem download speed for the Snapdragon platform. MediaTek’s infographic gives up to 5.17 Gbps for the base Dimensity 8400 modem. These are theoretical platform figures, not expected real-world speeds or evidence that one phone will have better reception or battery life. Phone antenna design, network support, carrier, and local conditions affect results.
Qualcomm advertises a triple 18-bit ISP and video capture up to 4K HDR at 60 frames per second. Those capabilities do not settle camera quality: sensors, lenses, image processing, and manufacturer tuning shape the photos and videos a phone produces. Compare camera tests of the actual handsets rather than relying on an ISP feature list.
How to choose between phones using these chips
- If benchmark results matter most: the cited Poco F7–Realme GT 7T Geekbench 6 comparison favors the Poco F7 in both reported scores.
- If you care about gaming: check sustained game tests for the exact phone, not only the chipset’s GPU features or a synthetic score.
- If battery, heat, camera quality, or value matter most: compare reviews and current local pricing for the specific phone models. The cited chipset evidence does not establish those outcomes across regions or devices.
- If a platform feature is important: verify that the phone maker actually includes and enables it; published maximum support does not guarantee implementation.
Vendor performance claims need their own context
Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 delivers 31% improved CPU performance and up to 49% improved GPU performance, compared with the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. MediaTek’s 2024 Dimensity 8400 infographic claims “-44% peak power use” and “>24% higher peak performance” relative to a previous-generation Dimensity platform. These are each manufacturer’s generational comparisons, not head-to-head measurements between the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and Dimensity 8400 Max.
