What the names and official specifications establish
Qualcomm’s September 24, 2025 announcement names the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform. It highlights the third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, on-device AI and APV professional video codec support. Qualcomm also calls its CPU “the fastest mobile CPU ever”; that is Qualcomm’s marketing claim, not an independent comparative result.

MediaTek’s official Dimensity 8500 specification page lists the following platform capabilities. The official material cited here does not establish that a separately branded “Dimensity 8500 Ultra” has identical specifications. Third-party sources that use “8500-Ultra” should therefore be read as referring to that label, not silently treated as proof of equivalence.

These Dimensity figures are platform capabilities, not guarantees that a particular phone will include or expose every feature. Manufacturers select components and configure the handset. The available Qualcomm announcement is not a complete row-by-row specification sheet, so missing values should not be filled using uncited comparisons.

What the benchmark numbers can—and cannot—tell you
Benchmark results measure particular workloads. They do not directly establish everyday responsiveness, sustained gaming performance, battery life or thermal comfort. Scores can vary with the phone’s cooling, firmware, power profile, memory configuration and benchmark version. The comparison sources here do not provide a controlled test of retail phones using the exact two variants under matched conditions.
Reported chipset-level comparison figures
NanoReview reports the following results for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series and Dimensity 8500. The V Series label is not clean evidence for the exact Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant in this article’s title. NanoReview notes fewer than three samples for some Snapdragon results and limited samples in other tests.

These are scores reported by NanoReview, not results from a matched retail-phone test. The Snapdragon column’s V Series designation and the limited samples make these figures unsuitable for declaring a winner between the exact title variants.
Retail-phone results are a separate kind of evidence
Cputronic lists Geekbench 6 results from retail phones including the OnePlus 15 labeled with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and the POCO X8 Pro labeled with Dimensity 8500-Ultra. Cputronic notes that results depend on each phone’s cooling and performance settings. These device results can illustrate real implementations, but the phones’ configurations and test conditions are not matched; they cannot isolate the processor as the cause of any score difference.

How to interpret the comparison when choosing a phone
- Check the exact chip label. The official MediaTek page covers Dimensity 8500; third-party use of “8500-Ultra” does not, by itself, verify identical specifications.
- Match the benchmark details. Look for benchmark version, workload, result type, phone or chip variant, and sample limitations before comparing scores.
- Prioritize the actual handset. Cooling design and performance settings shape sustained results; camera implementation, battery, software support, price and local availability are also phone-level choices.
- Keep the evidence in proportion. The listed numbers suggest differences in measured workloads, but the mixed variants and device conditions do not support a definitive processor-only ranking.
For a purchase decision, first identify phones sold in your market with the exact processor variants. Compare those handsets under the uses that matter to you—especially sustained gaming or camera features—rather than treating a platform name or one benchmark total as a complete verdict.
